Eden: New Dawn (September 28, 2021 – December 18, 2021)
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: Kingly Games | Platforms: PC | Payment Model: Buy2Play
What kind of game was it? Eden: New Dawn was a sandbox MMORPG that closely resembled Minecraft. The game world consisted of various blocks that could be mined and then used for building your own houses. However, the blocks appeared more colorful and randomly distributed.
The game world was based on the mobile game “Eden World Builder”, which resembles Minecraft even more but does not offer multiplayer.
The MMORPG did not include classes, instead opting for various weapons and corresponding skills. The trailer showed sword+shield and a kind of magical glove. Additionally, the game featured different enemy types and crazy means of transportation, like rockets that aren’t available in classic Minecraft.
The MMORPG was developed at least since 2019 in a custom engine. In summer 2020, the development was switched to Unreal Engine 4.
What led to its failure? On Steam, no one was interested in the new game. At peak, it reached 6 simultaneous players, and by November, there were several days when absolutely no one launched the MMORPG.
In an official statement, the developers explained that financial problems were the reason for the shutdown.
Since very few players had even heard of this MMORPG, and almost none had played it, the server shutdown likely had minimal impact.
What are the best memories? Due to the low player counts, it is likely that hardly anyone will remember the game’s contents.
Are there alternatives or successors? If you’re looking for a real Minecraft MMORPG, you can check out specific servers in Minecraft yourself or try the new Dragon & Home. It is free-to-play, plays quite smoothly, and already has 661 players at its peak on Steam.
A future alternative could be the MMORPG Hytale, which was even bought by Riot Games and is currently being developed. In it, players will be able to create houses, cities, and entire worlds according to their wishes. Both PvP and PvE servers are expected to be available at launch. Work on the game began back in 2015.
