What kind of game was it? Kritika Online was a free-to-play online RPG that featured fast and uncomplicated battles. While other role-playing games often start with boring starter areas and trash mobs, this one offered action right from the start.
It did not feature an entirely open world but focused on various cities where players could meet. The game areas were completely instantiated and only meant for your group. Some areas could be completed solo, while others required a group.
Kritika offered 10 different classes that you could level up to level 70. In endgame, there were also PvP arenas to test your skills against other players. Additionally, new events were regularly released to keep the game fresh.
What did it fail at? Kritika Online died back in April 2019. The RPG didn’t go deep enough for many players. While the combat system was fun, it offered very few innovations. Additionally, it was frequently criticized for strong grinding and repetitive gameplay.
In November 2019, the game returned as Kritika: Reboot. Fans praised the new changes in the UI, the new classes, and the removal of the annoying stamina system. This previously reduced rewards for extended playtime.
However, interest in the reboot also quickly declined. At release, over 3,700 players were online simultaneously at peak times on Steam, but the numbers had already dropped to triple digits in January 2020. In February 2022, it was all over, and the game was shut down.
What are the best memories? Kritika: Reboot was especially convincing with its enjoyable combat system. It felt incredibly good to beat enemies and see high damage numbers. The fights were fluid, action-packed, and the animations fit perfectly.

Are there alternatives or successors? Yes, there is even a renewed remake. On June 8, 2022, Kritika: Global was released. However, this is a Play2Earn game that only gives you one character slot. For additional slots, you must pay 50 euros directly. Furthermore, it has been criticized that the performance of the remake is worse than that of Kritika: Reboot.
