Respec – Von Neustarts und Neuerscheinungen

In today’s column from Respec, there are new updates on The Repopulation, an improved player experience for Gloria Victis, and the asymmetric horror RPG Kaidan has been announced.

The Repopulation

The issues between the developers of the MMORPG The Repopulation and the developers of the underlying Hero Engine are entering a new round. Above and Beyond announced that they will now switch to the Unreal Engine. However, this will take a lot of time since it requires rewriting the entire base code of the game. To finance the further development of The Repopulation, a small survival game will be released soon.

Fragmented

Fragmented is the aforementioned online survival game from the developers of The Repopulation. In February, there will be a first test where players can fight each other in the game world or battle against hostile creatures. Fragmented is based on a stripped-down version of The Repopulation and focuses on shooter combat and survival. RPG elements are expected to be used only rudimentarily. Various PvE and PvP game modes are intended to provide variety.

Gloria Victis

The sandbox MMORPG Gloria Victis is approaching completion at a rapid pace. The developers are currently working on completely changing the game entry so that new players can find their way into the MMO more easily. An MMORPG can be very complex, and the developers want to ensure that players can quickly master all game mechanics. Additionally, they are diligently working on improving the game’s performance and fixing bugs.

Kaidan

The indie developer Mentanoia Games announced a Kickstarter campaign for the horror online game Kaidan at the end of February. This is based on the concept of Evolve. One player takes on the role of the so-called “Haunter,” a monster with supernatural powers, who hunts the “victims,” consisting of up to three other players, through various scenarios and tries to take them out. Horror plays an important role, and the “victims” must try not to go insane, as this further strengthens the “Haunter.”

Shroud of the Avatar

Following the announcement of the Final Wipe, there is some tension in the forum of the selective multiplayer RPG Shroud of the Avatar. Especially the single-player faction feels somewhat neglected, as the Final Wipe essentially starts the online game. Without the complete story, single-player players will have to wait further.

The existing quests in the game are also met with little enthusiasm, as these have so far been pure Fedex quests or “Kill 5 Wolves” missions. More complex tasks with surprises and twists had been hoped for. Additionally, the world feels empty. Especially in large cities, the streets and buildings seem empty and dull.

Wild Terra

The sandbox MMORPG Wild Terra announced a graphical overhaul. While previously 2D sprites wandered through 2D worlds, this is set to change soon. They intend to replace all characters in the game with 3D models. This has practical benefits. While a lot of manual work is required for 2D characters, 3D models allow for using corresponding textures easily after creating the models. This could also allow for faster introduction of new characters or items. However, the transition from 2D to 3D will take some time.

Divergence Online

The MMO Divergence Online is no longer available on Steam. The developers state that they faced massive insults and negative reviews on the platform, which forced them to take the game offline. They will now focus on further development. Some users claimed that the developers of the MMO had stolen assets, leading to a major backlash.
