After a leak, it is now official: The Division 2 announced a crossover event with Resident Evil for February. Players will be able to earn cool cosmetics inspired by the horror classic.
The mystery surrounding the event “Codename: Nightmare” has been revealed. Initially planned as a special event with a spooky atmosphere and a unique gameplay experience, Codename: Nightmare has been transformed into a clothing event. The developers at Massive announced this some time ago. It is set to be a clothing event like none before in The Division 2. That was all that was known until now. However, a new announcement has shed light on the situation.
This is what has been newly announced: Yesterday, Xbox France accidentally leaked this event, where a trailer for it briefly went live – apparently too early. But shortly after, there was certainty.
As Capcom shortly thereafter stated during its stream for Resident Evil Village, there will indeed be a crossover event with The Division 2 in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the horror cult series. The trailer was also officially released afterwards.
This is the same event that is listed in the in-game season overview and in the official roadmap for Season 4 as “Operation: Nightmare”.
When exactly will the crossover event take place? Operation: Nightmare will begin on February 2 as part of the currently running Season 4. The clothing event will then run for 2 weeks until February 15, 2021.

What to expect in Operation Nightmare: In this new clothing event, the Division and the S.T.A.R.S., a special police unit from Raccoon City from Resident Evil, will face off – at least visually. Because it will likely remain a purely clothing event – so don’t expect new modes or special gameplay.
As part of this birthday event, you can earn cosmetic outfits of iconic characters from the original Resident Evil trilogy in The Division 2 – as well as weapon skins and other unspecified rewards inspired by the Resident Evil series.
For logging in during the event period, there is already a “Raccoon Police Department” outfit of Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil 2.
The trailer also shows several other event rewards – including the classic outfit of the cult character Jill Valentine and Hunk from an elite unit of the Umbrella Corporation. Claire’s PS1 outfit from Resident Evil 3 also seems to be among the rewards.

This is what the players say: The crossover event is well received by players in the first reactions. Many are looking forward to the new outfits and believe that Resident Evil and zombies fit perfectly with The Division 2.
However, many players regret that Operation: Nightmare has been downgraded to a pure clothing event. Originally, it was supposed to offer a unique gameplay experience and take place in a repurposed Kenly College with a spooky atmosphere. With Resident Evil in the background, it likely would have revolved around zombies – something many players would have loved to experience.
But that seems to be the price that The Division 2 has to pay for the new Star Wars game, so the general sentiment goes. Because, as recently announced, the first new Star Wars game without EA will actually be made by Massive, the creators of The Division 2. There may not have been time or resources left for the originally planned format for Codename: Nightmare, or so the suspicion goes.
