Math is not his greatest strength
How much is the merchant’s debt? Capcom celebrated the 3rd anniversary of the Resident Evil 4 remake on x.com with a crazy statistic. They reveal how much money the merchant has made in the game and how much he has given back to us:
- Players spent 39,914,290,699,099 pesetas (about €239,889,718,467) with him
- However, players received 43,251,570,618,389 pesetas (about €259,947,174,739) from the merchant
According to Capcom, the merchant has thus lost 3,337,279,919,290 pesetas (about €20,057,456,271) and has gotten into debt because the money has to come from somewhere. For comparison: If you want to buy the rocket launcher in the game with infinite ammunition, you need to spend 2 million pesetas (approximately €12,020).
How can that be? In Resident Evil 4, you can find treasures in the game world that you can sell to make pesetas from the merchant. What exactly the merchant does with the treasures is unclear, so it may be that he resells them.
Unfortunately, the merchant himself was never seen again. In Resident Evil 8, there was a new merchant called Duke
