The coop shooter Remnant: From the Ashes (PC, PS4, Xbox One) launched on August 20th and players are excited. But what does the press say in initial reviews of the action game? We’ll take a look at the reviews.
Here are the Metacritic ratings for Remnant: Players view the coop shooter a bit more positively than the press.
- Player ratings: 86/100 for the PC version, 96 out of 100 for the PS version, 95 out of 100 for the game on Xbox One
- Press ratings: 77/100 for the PC version. There aren’t enough individual ratings yet for the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
Players often rate it 90/100, and in some cases also 100/100 or 80/100 points.
According to the press, the ratings on Metacritic usually fall in the mid to high 70s or low 80s. There are only a few outliers up or down.
The shooter is well received by the press
What does the press say about the shooter? The press generally agrees on the exciting combat and the challenging but fair difficulty level. However, there are still areas for optimization, which is why Remnant is referred to as an “unpolished diamond.”

Worthplaying summarizes the game: “Overall, Remnant: From the Ashes is a solid attempt to change the Soulsborne formula. It doesn’t quite measure up to FromSoftware’s titles, but it has its own strengths…If you’re looking for a coop-based Souls game, Remnant is worth a look.”

Very good reviews on Steam
What are the ratings on Steam like? The rating of the shooter is currently at 91% and “very positive,” as of August 21, 2019. The combat, reminiscent of Dark Souls, as well as the coop gameplay and atmosphere are repeatedly praised.
According to Steamcharts, over 18,100 players are currently playing simultaneously on average. At peak times, there were even more than 26,500 players at once.
Since the coop shooter Remnant: From the Ashes just launched on August 20th, we obviously have to wait and see how the shooter performs in the long term with players. Will it keep players engaged over time? Will the developers release new content quickly enough?
All of this will affect ratings and player numbers in the coming weeks and months.
