At the end of the Nintendo Direct, at the E3 2021, Nintendo showed a short teaser for the sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BOTW 2) and revealed when it is coming out. Now you finally get to see the first scenes of exactly the game that most of you have been waiting for.
Was a release date for BOTW 2 shown? 2022 – there is no exact release date, but at least a timeframe for next year.
In the press release for Nintendo Breath of the Wild 2, it also states that the release is only targeted for 2022. So it could well be that the game comes out in 2023.
But at least, there was fresh gameplay to see.
New gameplay trailer is a rendered video
In the new teaser for the sequel to Breath of the Wild, you see the protagonist Link on a new adventure. However, not much is revealed about the story – we still do not know how it continues after the first part.
The short gameplay scenes show some of the abilities from Breath of the Wild, such as the Stasis skill, with which Link can shoot objects around and eliminate enemies. However, it apparently is rendered gameplay, not live gameplay.
In the last scene, the castle is visible, hovering over shadowy tentacles. So Ganon does not seem to have been completely defeated.
However, what is interesting is the choice of title. The teaser refers to the “sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and does not explicitly mention Breath of the Wild 2. So the title apparently is still pending, but it should be clear that this is definitely the second part.
Breath of the Wild 2: Announcement excites tens of thousands
The trailer for the new Zelda has already received over 70,000 likes on YouTube in less than 40 minutes after its release, with just 500 downvotes and over 500,000 views (as of 19:25). Thus, the trailer is one of the most successful of E3 2021.
The Zelda series is indeed hugely popular, and Breath of the Wild 2 was also the most eagerly awaited announcement on MeinMMO. The fact that the release is still a while off may cause many impatient gamers to fret, but probably the joy over the sequel will outweigh that.
