The US election 2020 is in full swing and the last votes are being counted. We from MeinMMO took this as an opportunity to take a closer look at 3 MMOs to see who is actually in power.
The voting system in the USA is extremely complicated. Depending on the state, votes are cast and electors are assigned to the winning candidate. Different states have different numbers of electors. In short, whoever reaches 270 electors at the end wins the election and becomes the new President of the USA.
Counting all the votes can take some time. In addition, in some states the mail-in ballots may arrive with some delay and still be counted.
We at MeinMMO wanted to bridge this time and took a look at 3 MMOs where politics certainly plays a role. We show you who is in charge in our list.
The Division 2

What is The Division 2? The Division 2 is the sequel to the shared-world online shooter The Division 1. Here, the tactical cover system and the many RPG elements in the form of skills, character progression, and loot are in the foreground.
The world of Division is dominated by a pandemic. The virus was deliberately released. It is referred to as “Green Poison” or “Dollar Group” and has thrown the USA and large parts of the world into chaos.
Now it is up to you, as part of the Division, to restore order. The setting is Washington DC and New York City (with the Warlords expansion), which have been implemented realistically.
Who is in charge in Division 2?
Politically, chaos initially reigns in The Division 2. Due to the virus, the government is collapsing. Various armed factions are trying to exploit the chaotic situation for their own gain.
There is the rogue agent Aaron Keener, who has witnessed the effects of the virus on humanity from the very beginning. He believes the government is incapable and wants to do his own thing.
In addition, there are various splinter groups and the mysterious security company “Black Tusk” with political connections.
When the virus breaks out, Lawrence Waller is the President of the USA. Some players see connections between Waller and US President Trump. Admittedly, the name contains the English word for “wall” and the president is said to have a poor relationship with Russia. This is evident from an audio file in the game.
This file mentions a wall to Mexico. Only, in this case, it is meant to protect the Mexicans from the virus, not the USA from supposed immigrants.
In the game itself, Andrew Ellis, a former speaker of the House of Representatives and confidant of Waller, is the president. He betrays his country and the Division by stealing a broad-spectrum medication that could defeat the virus. He apparently also had his predecessor killed – a very charming guy.
World of Warcraft

What is WoW? World of Warcraft is considered the most well-known MMORPG in North America and Europe. You can play a total of 7 expansions there. WoW is primarily designed for MMORPG fans who want to experience raids and dungeons. But you can also quest through the story well on your own.
Currently WoW is celebrating its 16th birthday and the age shows in the game as well. The comic graphics have been enhanced here and there, with the latest patch also improving the characters.
As a combat system, you can expect classic tab-targeting.
For several months, WoW has offered two versions:
- On the one hand, there is “Retail WoW”, which includes the current expansion Battle for Azeroth. The new addon Shadowlands is already on the horizon and is set to release on November 24, 2020.
- Otherwise, there is also WoW Classic, a remake of the base game that was released in August 2019.
Who is in charge in WoW?
The world of WoW is characterized by the war between the Horde and the Alliance, which experiences a constant ebb and flow throughout the expansions. The factions are ruled by the High King of the Alliance on the one hand and by the Horde Council on the other.
At the head of Stormwind and the Alliance stands the King or High King. However, he does not rule alone, but has capable advisors in matters of war and governance around him.
There are high representatives of the army and navy for war issues and a council consisting of various members of the Alliance. In principle, all representatives of the major Alliance races can be found here. Thus, the king tries to safeguard the interests of all peoples.
With the Horde, the warchief was originally in the lead. He resided in Orgrimmar and was supported by advisors and ambassadors.
Since the last warchief, Sylvanas Windrunner, left the Horde, the position has remained vacant. The Horde then formed a council because they could do without a warchief in times of peace.
Instead of just one ruler, the leaders of the races are now in power to represent the interests of their peoples. All council members carry equal weight and decisions affecting the entire Horde are also made.
The Elder Scrolls Online

What is ESO? The Elder Scrolls Online is an MMORPG, but not in the classical sense. In the tradition of the Elder Scrolls series, it focuses on many solo content. In addition, the “One Tamriel” addon ensures that you can play everything at any level, and your character will be adjusted accordingly.
ESO places value on its special story and beautiful setting. Especially fans of the Elder Scrolls games will recognize some places. As with the current chapter about Skyrim, called Himmelsrand in German.
Who is in charge in ESO?
ESO is marked by chaos with an epic civil war at its core. Due to an intrigue by the necromancer Mannimarco, the emperor was overthrown and now only a puppet sits on the throne. The three alliances formed from nine races want to fill this position in the “War of the Three Banners”:
- The Ebonheart Pact
- The Aldmeri Dominion
- The Daggerfall Covenant
The factions want to exploit the chaotic situation in Tamriel to set their respective representative on the throne. MeinMMO author Jürgen Horn reminds me a bit of Game of Thrones.
The Ebonheart Pact is ruled by Jorunn the Skald-King, but not alone. All his decisions must be ratified by the three races. This form of government is called the Grand Council and is very close to a democracy.
The Daggerfall Covenant is ruled by High King Emeric. He is a master of diplomacy, having secured the Rothwardons through marriage and the Orcs through skillful war agreements.
The Aldmeri Dominion is ruled by Queen Ayrenn. She asked the ancient races of the Khajiit and Wood Elves for help, to save the younger races from their misfortune. She wants to see the elves back in power and rid herself of the warmongering and cursed humans. A lesson in racism would also do the High Elves some good.
