Just a few hours ago, the “Recruit a Friend” system went live in World of Warcraft. It offers cool rewards, which may not be appealing to everyone.
Blizzard had announced weeks ago that there would soon be an updated “Recruit a Friend” system in World of Warcraft. Since last night (October 22, 2019), it is actually live in the game and invites players to invite other players. There are exclusive rewards that are so good that some can’t comprehend it – after all, such things cannot be earned through gameplay. Especially since Blizzard has apparently changed the rules “secretly.”
What rewards are there? Anyone wishing to recruit friends in World of Warcraft can now earn new rewards. These include a cosmetic backpack, a transmog set, several mounts, game time, and other goodies. We have presented all rewards here.
What is the problem? A new issue arises for the “recruiter”, who does not receive all rewards at once. Even if one recruits a friend who directly purchases 12 months of game time, the rewards are not received immediately. This was also confirmed by a support employee:

Instead, it seems that only one of the rewards per recruited friend is delivered each month. So, if someone wants all rewards, they not only have to recruit their friends for 12 months but are also “forced” to maintain a subscription during that time. Since a player can only recruit 4 other players per month, there is an additional “time-gating” for the rewards.
Those who are upset about this should perhaps take a walk with their tree and relax.
How can you get the rewards the quickest? In the WoW subreddit, players are already discussing how to get all rewards the fastest. The quickest strategy seems to be as follows:
You recruit four friends directly and have them each pay for one month. Then you receive the first 4 rewards. After 30 days, you recruit 4 more friends while ensuring that the originally recruited friends pay for another month.
Thus, after 30 days, you would have received all rewards already.
Some players with sufficient financial resources are considering simply creating 8 additional accounts themselves to recruit themselves and shorten the process.
Whether this actually works is still questionable. At least the first players report that they were able to claim several rewards using this method.
Players are angry and vent their frustration: In social media, players are quite disappointed with this change. They are especially angry because the change about “One reward per month” was only mentioned later. In the system introduction a few months ago, nothing of the sort was mentioned.
Again and again, voices are raised that say Blizzard is only trying to impress investors with particularly high subscription numbers. Because when players are practically “forced” to recruit themselves multiple times, it increases the number of subscriptions and thus the monthly revenue.
The concern of many players is that Blizzard will now implement new rewards every 12 months to be able to repeat this “trick” at will.
What do you think of the new “Recruit a Friend” system? Do you like the rewards, and will you recruit someone?
