Those who only buy the standard version are out of luck. Rockstar includes two side missions only in the expensive game variants of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most anticipated games of the year. Therefore, it was not surprising that Rockstar presented several variations of the game yesterday and even introduced an additional box for €100 that does not even include the base game. However, within the content of the various game versions, a major annoyance has emerged. Some of the side missions are only available if players decide to purchase the special editions.
Which content is being withheld? The two side activities “Bank Heist” and “Gang Hideout” are available to players only if they purchase either the Special Edition (€84.99) or the Ultimate Edition (€99.99). Both missions are not part of the main story but belong to the numerous “side activities” that players can engage in within Red Dead Redemption 2.
Players express outrage: On Twitter, Rockstar Games confirmed that the two missions were “specifically crafted for the special editions of the game.” Fans do not believe this and rather think that “Bank Heist” and “Gang Hideout” were cut from the base game to later offer them as a bonus for the special editions.
Most players likely would have no problem if various cosmetic items found their way into alternate versions, but when it comes to story content that tempts them to purchase a more expensive version, the fun ends for many.
However, it remains unclear what scope the two missions will have and whether their absence will even be noticed or completely lost in the scope of the game.
The mood among fans is definitely tense now, and accusations are growing that Rockstar is “only out for money.”
What is your opinion on these bonus missions? Can you do without them? And what do you think of the practice of offering story content only in premium editions?
