Red Dead Redemption 2 has been out for a few days now, and many players are likely busy exploring the Wild West. But some fans feel misled by Sony. What is the problem?
Since October 26, players can roam the Wild West in Red Dead Redemption 2. The feedback has been very positive so far, the reviews on Metacritic are overwhelmingly positive.
A group of players is angry. They claim that Sony is misleading customers with deceptive advertising regarding the PS4 Pro version. The issue is the resolution in which RDR 2 runs on the PS4 Pro.

RDR 2 does not run in native 4K on PS4 Pro
What is the problem? Unlike the Xbox One X version, Red Dead Redemption 2 does not run in native 4K on the PS4 Pro. Instead, a technology called “checkerboard rendering” or “upscaled 4K” is used.
Instead of a resolution of 3840x2160p, which corresponds to native 4K, the PS4 Pro only supports 1920x2160p. This fact has upset many, as commercials and posters prominently state “Play in 4K on PS4 Pro”.
How big is the difference between PS4 Pro and Xbox One X? In fact, the Xbox is not only superior to the PS4 in terms of resolution. The checkerboard rendering causes a strange, blurry blue tint on the PS4 Pro, and some users complain that HDR does not make the game look better.

This is interesting because there has not been a similar case so far. Although the Xbox One X is technically superior to the PS4 Pro, all games released for both platforms have been visually nearly identical.
Since there is no PC version that has significantly more technical capabilities, the choice between Xbox One X and PS4 Pro really matters this time.
This is how the community reacts:
In a forum on Resterca.com, players express their dissatisfaction.
- Some believe that Sony is deliberately lying to lure customers,
- the upscaling is also implemented much sloppier on the PS4 Pro than in other games.
- Others think that it is not a marketing lie since Sony does not claim anywhere that it is native 4K.
- Furthermore, the game looks fantastic anyway, so the excitement is not really worth it.
