In Red Dead Redemption 2, players on PlayStation 4 are prioritized. Players on Xbox One have to wait 30 days longer for certain online DLCs.
A new bundle reveals it: It has been clear for some time that Sony and RockStar would collaborate on “Red Dead Redemption 2.” This was already evident from announcements and promotional measures.
The full extent has now been made known after a console bundle for the PlayStation 4 was introduced. A sticker on the back says “PlayStation Exclusive.”
It’s about online DLCs
What does it say exactly? As reported by the site “RockstarIntel“, it says on the bundle “Timed Exclusive for 30 Days.” This refers to “Online Content.” These are probably DLCs for Red Dead Online. The multiplayer mode of Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to enter beta in November.
It was already known that there would be time-exclusive content for PlayStation 4. Now it is clear that players on PS4 will receive selected online DLCs 30 days before players on Xbox One. The game has not yet been announced for PC.
Confirmed by Sony: Currently, the news comes only from Sony about the bundle; a confirmation from RockStar is still pending.
This means:
- On one hand, it clearly means that Red Dead Online will be developed with specific online DLCs like GTA Online.
- On the other hand, it seems that Sony and RockStar have made a similar deal to The Division – only with reversed roles. In The Division, players on PlayStation 4 waited a month for the DLCs. This led to a fragmented community.
Fans are additionally concerned that the “single-player mode” won’t receive any DLCs or expansions, while Red Dead Online will be supplied with content.
Fans don’t understand
Here’s how fans are reacting: On reddit, the news is already making waves.
- Xbox One players feel disadvantaged in this generation, as titanshif3r makes clear: “The Xbox has been screwed every conceivable way in this generation.”
- Others see this from both sides. Murphs33 says “Xbox gets the Fallout 76 Beta earlier, so both sides are doing it. But I don’t quite understand the strategy. Do people really buy a PS4 just because they get online content from Red Dead Redemption 2 earlier?”
Yesterday, it became known what a storage space hog the new game will be:
