After Rockstar Games officially announced the Western action game Red Dead Redemption 2, one can speculate about what the innovative online mode might look like.
That Red Dead Redemption 2 will have a single-player mode where a story is told is clear. But what about the online mode? Are the developers taking inspiration from GTA Online? After all, they have already secured the domain reddeadonline.com. GTA Online is very popular and a similar gaming experience in a Western scenario would surely appeal to fans as well.
Gang wars, stagecoach robberies, and more
GTA Online is limited to 16 players at once. Would it be conceivable for Rockstar Games to raise this limit for Red Dead Online? One shouldn’t expect an MMO, as a dedicated team would likely be needed to manage a completely separate game. Nevertheless, Red Dead Online could feel somewhat like an MMO. Imagine if it were possible to band together with other players. Each gang controls a specific area of the vast game world. Gang wars could lead to territory expansion.
Perhaps one would also have to manage and expand one’s own “fortress” and maintain it, for which one would have to conquer mines. There, one could either mine ore or gold to create or purchase defenses. Of course, stagecoach robberies or train heists would not be omitted. Here, teamwork like in the heists of GTA Online would be required. Additionally, group missions or daily tasks could be available.
More players = more fun!
However, it would be necessary to increase the number of players. 32 to 64 would be ideal if there were multiple gangs in the game world, each consisting of at least seven to ten members. Such an online experience would surely provide a lot of fun. More information about the game and perhaps also about the online mode is hopefully revealed in the trailer that will be released tomorrow.
