In Red Dead Redemption 2 , the rumor is circulating that the game will “absolutely never” come to PC. This has caused fans to implode on reddit. It is likely a translation error.
This is what happened: The Italian site “multiplayer.it” hosted a stream from the Tokyo Game Show 2018 (via Twitch). The TGS is the major gaming fair in Japan, running from September 20 to 23.
During the stream, the Italians interviewed an employee from RockStar. Topic: Red Dead Redemption 2. When asked, “Is it coming to PC?”, the employee reportedly answered, “No, absolutely not.”
This translation spread across the internet.
Torches and pitchforks out: Within hours, there was a large thread on reddit with the general tenor: “Greetings to you too, Rockstar.”
Upset fans correctly speculated that Rockstar is avoiding PC because they fear cheats and mods. The thread exploded within a short time to nearly 28,000 upvotes and 2,500 comments.
The mood was quite tense.
This actually happened: Apparently, “No, absolutely not” is a translation error.
The Rockstar man gave a pure PR answer in the stream to the question “Is it coming to PC?” saying, “No, for PS4 and Xbox One.”
He simply repeated the “obvious” and “official” without saying anything about the future of the game or Rockstar’s plans.
This actual answer is far from a “No, absolutely not” and only describes the current state.
The misunderstanding was clarified by a Rockstar employee. He stated that even the interviewer thought it was a PR answer.
This is how the fans are reacting: Even after the clarification of the translation error, the fans are still not calmed down. They say this new answer doesn’t mean that Red Dead Redemption 2 is actually coming to PC.
So what is the situation regarding the PC release now? There is no official announcement from Rockstar. Fans have assumed so far that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released for PC some time later – just like with other titles from Rockstar. That is still possible now.
While there is still no official confirmation, fans are hoping for a PC release following leaks in June.
PC fans’ dissatisfaction escalates
What’s behind it: PC fans are dissatisfied that they are being kept in suspense regarding Red Dead Redemption 2. They suspect that the developer wants to boost sales of the game on PS4 and Xbox One by concealing PC plans.
It is assumed that RDR2, like GTA Online, will “eventually” come to PC. However, there is no firm confirmation. This makes fans nervous.
At least, Red Dead Redemption 2 could become the Game of the Year 2018 – it is annoying to wait on the sidelines feeling forgotten.
What is certain is that an online version will start soon:
