In the open world of Red Dead Redemption 2, NPCs react to your actions. This can lead to trouble during a firefight if you’re mean to a dog.
Red Dead Redemption 2 boasts that NPCs respond directly to player behavior. Whether you invade their personal space or wave your pistol around in town, depending on the character of the NPC, you can observe a variety of reactions. It’s no surprise that the townsfolk find animal cruelty to be no laughing matter.
Animals and NPCs remember your actions
What is it about? More and more players report on the reactions of animals and NPCs in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. Whether intentionally or accidentally, many actions result in an immediate response in the game.
You can interact with many animals in RDR 2. For example, with horses or dogs. The numerous dogs that roam the prairie or can be found in towns appreciate a bit of petting and will joyfully remember you afterwards.
If you torment the dogs, they will bark at you the next time. By the way, NPCs do not take kindly to animal cruelty either. Even if the animals in RDR 2 sometimes go completely out of control.
You should rather pet dogs, not shoot them
How do NPCs react to cruelty? A recent YouTube video shows what happens when you step on a dog with your horse. The animal limps away – visibly injured – and howls loudly before Arthur ends its suffering. Many players were horrified by how brutal Red Dead Redemption 2 is.
The scene was witnessed by the NPCs present, which led to a bounty being placed on Arthur for animal cruelty. To top it off, the townsfolk started shooting at Arthur.
No mercy, not even for accidents: A similar experience was already reported by VentureBeat when playing. Instead of petting a dog, someone accidentally shot a small yapper.
The bystanders in Valentine immediately notified the sheriff, who ordered the culprit to leave town. Apparently, the lawman didn’t think the man was leaving quickly enough, as he then started shooting at Arthur.
This NPC in Saint Denis could also use police protection.
After the animal abuser’s death, the incident was by no means erased from the minds of the NPCs. When Arthur returned to Valentine, the dog that had been shot last time started barking. The town’s residents then called out to Arthur as he walked by that they still remembered what he had done.
What do you think about the NPCs reacting to your actions? Have you ever had such an experience?
