In Red Dead Redemption 2, you have the task of catching 13 legendary fish. You will find out which mission you start your fishing journey with and where to find the legendary fish here.
In addition to the hunt for the legendary bear, fishermen also receive a special task in Red Dead Redemption 2. They are to catch 13 legendary fish scattered throughout the game world. These unique fish are particularly difficult to catch. We have summarized where you can find the quest giver for this side quest and where you need to search for the legendary fish.
The quest sends you on the search for the fish
This is what you need to know before the mission: Fishing is unlocked in Chapter 2 in the mission “The Fishers of Men”. Most baits can be purchased at the bait and tackle shop in Lagras. However, you must first trigger the quest for the legendary fish.
Where can you find the quest? The quest “Fish Fancier” sends you in search of the 13 legendary fish. The quest giver is Jeremy Gill, who you can find at the dock on the northeastern shore of Flat Iron Lakes near Blackwater in West Elizabeth.
Gill gives you the task of finding the 13 legendary fish and sending them to him by mail. To make things easier, he also includes a map with the locations of the critters.
Unlike regular fish, the legendary specimens are usually so large that they do not fit in your bag. Instead, you must transport them on the back of your horse.
Here’s how to catch the legendary fish: For the different fish, there is a single legendary specimen that is particularly large and difficult to catch. To lure the legendary animals, you need a special bait.
The 13 legendary fish can be caught with all special baits. However, if you use the bait that best suits the respective water, the chances of catching the legendary fish will increase.

With legendary fish, you must use an advanced fishing technique to successfully pull them out of the water. As soon as the fish gets tired, you can tilt the left analog stick down to lift your rod. With the right analog stick, you then reel in the line as usual.
Legendary fish do not give up without a fierce struggle. Repeat this technique whenever the fish gets tired to emerge victorious from the duel.
Here you can find the 13 legendary fish
Here we list all 13 legendary fish for you. Additionally, we will show you at which location and with which optimal bait you can catch them. To make your work easier, it is advisable to have fast travel unlocked.

Legendary Chain Pickerel: You can find this fish in Dakota River, northwest of Flatneck Station. Again, the special river bait is a good choice.

Legendary Sockeye Salmon: You will find the Sockeye Salmon in Lake Isabella at the western edge of the Grizzlies. Once again, the special lake bait is essential.
Legendary Steelhead Trout: For the Steelhead Trout, head to Willard’s Rest. At the waterfall at the northeast edge of the map, north of Annesburg, you should find it. Here, the special river bait will help you again.

Legendary Bluegill: The last legendary fish is the Bluegill, for which you travel to Flat Iron Lake. You should find it between the shore and the island south of Clemens Point. Catch it with a special lake bait.
These rewards await for the fish
Why should you catch the fish? Of course, you do not catch the fish just for fun. Jeremy Gill will also reward you for the fish sent to him:
- 1 legendary fish: lake bait
- 10 legendary fish: 45 dollars and 5 juicy fish fillets
- 13 legendary fish and a visit to Jeremy: special spinner
Once you have sent Jeremy all 13 fish, he will invite you to his cabin. Then you will take a trip to Rio Bravo to catch the legendary Spotted Catfish. However, you can only embark on this adventure in Epilogue 1 at the earliest.
