Fans are hoping for a PC release of Red Dead Redemption 2, which has only been released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles so far. Whether this wish will ever come true is something Take-Two didn’t even want to reveal to investors.
There have been some hints for a PC release of Red Dead Redemption 2: A placeholder for a PC version of RDR 2 was found on the website of an electronics retailer, while a former programmer claimed to have worked on a PC version. Recently, during an earnings call, even the CEO of Take-Two did not want to reveal whether the game will still be released for PC.
CEO dodges questions about PC release
What happened: Every quarter, Take-Two holds a conference call with their investors to inform them about the business. In the current earnings call, Red Dead Redemption 2 and the upcoming Red Dead Online took a special role.
When the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, was asked by an investor whether Red Dead Redemption 2 would also be released for PC, he evaded the question and either didn’t want to or couldn’t give a straight answer.
CEO dodges the question: The investor asked whether Strauss Zelnick could say anything about the frequency with which Red Dead Online will receive content updates and whether the release schedule will vary between Red Dead Online and GTA Online.
Thirdly, the investor wanted to know whether Red Dead Redemption 2 would also be released for PC, since Red Dead Redemption 1 was not released for that platform.
There was a long pause, during which Zelnick eventually asked the investor to repeat the question and began to respond:
At Rockstar, we usually bring everyone up to date on upcoming releases, and that would answer all your questions. However, it is still too early to talk about content updates for Red Dead 2 Online, as it obviously has not yet launched. In the past, we have of course updated content for our online offerings.
Regarding ongoing releases, Rockstar will discuss what their intentions are regarding all upcoming products, and the same goes for the platform. In this specific case, I really can’t enlighten you too much, I apologize.
Although many indications suggest that Red Dead Redemption 2 will also be released for PC, the Italian site “multiplayer.it” reported that Rockstar supposedly said that RDR 2 “will never” be released for PC. However, this was said to have been a translation error.
