Is Sony responsible for the delay of Red Dead Redemption 2? Rumors say: Yes! – Allegedly, there are problems with cross-play.
New rumors about Red Dead Redemption 2 are causing unrest in the community. The delayed release of the western adventure is allegedly due to Sony, as they do not want to agree to a cross-play feature.
Keep in mind that this is not official information from Rockstar Games or Sony, but a rumor.
Is the refusal of crossplay the reason for the late release of RDR2?
The announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2 created hype in the gaming community. The trailer for RDR2 made fans’ hearts race as they looked forward to a release in 2017. However, in May of this year, the first disappointment hit the community: Release postponed – Red Dead Redemption 2 will come no earlier than April 2018.
As a reason for the delay, Rockstar Games stated that they simply need more time for the game. They want to present the community with a “finished” game.
Now rumors say that the delay is due to Sony.
According to the website BlastingNews, a cross-play feature is allegedly planned for Red Dead Redemption 2. This means a feature where players on PS4, Xbox One, and PC can play online together.
However, according to rumors, Sony’s attitude towards cross-play is the reason why the game is being released later. Apparently, Sony has not yet granted permission for this feature to Rockstar Games.
The later release is said to give more time to reach a compromise. But again: This is only a rumor and has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games or Sony.
Sony wants to protect children
In recent weeks, Sony has already drawn attention to itself regarding cross-play. For example, they rejected the cross-play feature in the auto-soccer game “Rocket League” and the building-survival game “Minecraft”.
As a reason why Sony is against cross-play in Minecraft, they say, “The player group of Minecraft is represented across all age groups and can also be very young. We have the mission to take care of the players who go online through us. Exposing players, some of whom are children, to external influences is something we have to think carefully about. Because we cannot control these influences.”
Whether the rumors about a planned cross-play feature in RDR2 and Sony’s rejection are really true will perhaps be revealed soon. Because according to Rockstar Games, there should be news about Red Dead Redemption 2 this summer.
No cross-play for PS4 because Sony wants to protect children
