For the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, some players have already stayed up all night. What many did not expect, however, is the brutality they witness in the Wild West.
Red Dead Redemption 2 tells the story of the last glorious days of outlaws in the Wild West. Of course, a bit of violence must be included. Some players who have already spent some time with Arthur Morgan and the gang are shocked by how honest and brutal the game really is.
No Heart for Animals
This is how fur is made: One of the side activities in Red Dead Redemption 2 is hunting. The resources can be used for crafting or can be sold.
The game makes no secret of the fact that players hunt real animals virtually. Thus, the killing of animals or the removal of their fur is not sugar-coated. Some players have already shared videos of their hunts.
Some spectators are appalled by how brutal the skinning of a rabbit is, while experienced hunters confirm that this is also a way to obtain valuable furs in real life.
Realistic Hunting: Another video shows the hunting of a deer. Arthur has already shot the animal with an arrow but has not killed it yet.
The animal writhes and desperately tries to stand up. Arthur puts the animal out of its misery with a decisive grip.
Many players report that they find it disturbing how realistically the animals react. The deer lies twitching on the ground and seems to be in pain. As Arthur approaches, the animal widens its eyes and screams in panic.
Of Fires and Fights
Players praise fire physics: Players seem not to take the brutality to heart so much when it involves human NPCs rather than animals. In a video where a dead NPC is thrown into the fire, many players praise the fire physics.
In the video, Arthur grabs the lifeless body and throws it next to the fire. However, the victim’s arm catches fire, which spreads slowly. The NPC leisurely goes up in flames.
By the way, some players also treat certain NPCs brutally.
With a knife into the fight: A scene from a stream creates laughter. Arthur gets involved in a fight started by an NPC. As he walks by, the NPC talks to Arthur and immediately starts throwing punches as he approaches.
Arthur is quickly disarmed, but he can still pull out a knife and stab the unruly character. This is depicted quite bloody, but it is overshadowed by the streamer’s assurances that it was not murder, but self-defense.
What do you think about the level of violence in RDR2? Is the game too brutal for you, or do you like that Rockstar doesn’t sugarcoat anything?
