In Red Dead Online, you can choose between various PvP game modes such as Most Wanted or Hostile Territory. We present to you the Showdown game modes of the multiplayer mode of RDR 2 here.
For entertainment in Red Dead Online, there are various PvP game modes in which you can have fun alone with random players or with friends. Included are classic deathmatches, where you compete for the highest score, as well as fights for first place. You will see these activities on the map as Showdown activities.
Here we show you an overview of the PvP game modes that are currently active in the beta of Red Dead Online. In addition to these competitive games, there are also various activities throughout the map, such as races or missions.
Shootout & Team Shootout
This is about the classic deathmatch you already know from other shooters like Call of Duty, Counter-Strike, or even GTA Online. When you die, you come back into the fight after a short pause and can happily shoot again.
A timer runs down during which both teams can score points with kills. If the score is tied at the end of the time, it continues with a sudden-death decision. The next kill determines which team leaves as the winner.
To help you better distinguish the teams, they wear conspicuous colors on their outfits. You can find these colors on the minimap and next to the names of opponents (above their heads). This way you can easily tell whether a friend or foe stands before you.
Make It Count
The Make-It-Count mode in Red Dead Online is what many refer to as battle royale. Essentially, it is a last-man-standing mode, where the play area shrinks. Running away and hiding far away is not an option.
The special thing about this mode is the weapons you are allowed to use. Currently, there are two forms of Make It Count:
- Use nothing but a bow and a handful of arrows
- or use nothing but throwing knives
You only have these weapons available to fight against other players for who survives last. You play with seven other players in this mode.
Gun Rush
Gun Rush is also a battle royale mode that features a shrinking map. Like in other games of the genre, players must find weapons, armor, and items during the game.
Players are not dropped onto the map, but start at the edge and must work their way toward the center of the map where the best weapons await them. Up to 32 players can compete individually or as a team in this mode.

Most Wanted
In the game mode Most Wanted, it’s about fighting to the top as a single player. You do this by taking out other players. Each kill improves your position. However, there is also a twist. The closer you are to the top of the leaderboard, the more points opponents get if they take you down.
After a kill, you will be shown how many points you receive for the opponent.
Hostile Territory
In the game mode Hostile Territory, teamwork is essential. Together with your allies, you should try to control the map. You score points when you control areas. So control as many areas as possible to win.
Per map, there are a handful of different areas that can be captured. These are color-coded on the minimap and in the interface. This way, you can quickly find your way there. It’s up to you whether you play it safe and only capture a few areas or are always on the move to capture as many areas as possible.
On the battlefield, you can find weapons or health packs.
Name Your Weapon
In the game mode Name Your Weapon, it’s about proving your skill with special weapons. The more difficult the weapon you use to get a kill, the more points you earn for it. For example, a kill with a thrown tomahawk gives you more points than a takedown with a shotgun.
In the end, the one who managed to score the most points wins. You must decide whether to try to get a kill with more complex weapons like bows and earn a lot of points or stick with the familiar shotgun to continuously gain points.
Weapons are also distributed across the map in this mode.
Spoils of War
Spoils of War is a mode for 2 to 16 players, where the competitors start in their hideouts. Together with your teammates, you must try to loot the opponents’ hideouts and bring them back to your own base.
The goal of this mode is to steal more than the opposing faction. However, you must not only rob your enemies but also defend your own hideout.
Spoils of War is played on various maps, including Fort Mercer and Valentine.
Up in Smoke
Also in Up in Smoke, it’s about hideouts, like in Spoils of War. However, you do not have to steal anything here, but rather blow things up. All players start the mode with an explosive charge.
The goal is to bring as much explosive material as possible to the opponent’s hideout. Every time a player manages to place their explosives at the opponent’s camp, a piece of the hideout is destroyed. The team that destroys the opponent’s hideout first wins.
