What is it about? The bond with a horse in Red Dead Online is important so that you can call it from great distances and the animal won’t run away from you in heated situations. Players have now found a way to easily increase this bond and reach the maximum level within an hour.
Lead your horse to quickly increase the bond
A Reddit user tried out a method to increase the bond with his horse. On Reddit, he posted as Captain_Jalapeno how he casually increased the bond with his chestnut Arabian from level 1 to level 4.
What method was used? Instead of feeding the horse, petting it, or performing other actions that strengthen the bond, the user took the reins and led his horse.
In this method, Captain_Jalapeno also published a screenshot showing the distance covered.
This route fills the horse bond: The player writes that he took the horse from the stables in Valentine, then led it along the main road, then followed the train tracks south to the station. After that, he went up north. Along this route, Captain_Jalapeno led his horse, which had the maximum bond with him upon reaching the green line. However, you can also use any other route.
How long does this method take? For this player, it took 24 in-game hours to reach the maximum bond. That corresponds to about one “real” hour.
Does this work with every horse? In the example shown, the player used the chestnut Arabian, which is available as early access for PS4 players. Players in the comments on Reddit say that the time until maximum bond depends on the quality of the horse.
Reddit user pieceofchess asked if all horses require the same amount of experience points to strengthen the bond. To this, user michael4540 replied: “No. The higher the quality, the longer it takes.”
So it can take longer or shorter to fully establish the bond depending on the horse. Make sure that your horse is protected from thieves in Red Dead Online.
Are there problems with this method? Some players notice that the bond with their horse in Red Dead Online resets. However, that is just a display error. User dikdiklikesick writes that you can simply send your horse away and bring it back after 30 seconds to display the correct bond.
