It seems that the map of the online mode of Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online, will soon change to a wintery theme. At least that’s the assumption of data miners.
What was found? While digging through the PC data of Red Dead Redemption 2, data miners noticed an interesting change. The code contains data referencing “world snow coverage xmas”, indicating a snow-covered world for Christmas.
In live-service games like Red Dead Online, which are continually updated with new content, holiday events are commonly celebrated. This leak does not show any crazy new content no one expects but sounds quite plausible.
It is very possible that Rockstar will cover the map of Red Dead Online in snow for the winter to celebrate Christmas or the winter season with the players.
If the map is indeed going to be covered in snow, a player will likely be particularly happy about it. Last year, this player rode around as Santa Claus in Red Dead Online.
This speaks for a snow map: In GTA Online, the multiplayer mode of GTA V, Rockstar has shown for years how to celebrate winter, Christmas, and New Year. Appropriately for the holiday season, the streets of Los Santos turn white when snowflakes fall from the sky.
In the players’ offices, Christmas trees are set up and fairy lights are hung. The icy streets entice many players to hit the asphalt, allowing their finely tuned supercars to drift around tight corners.
Players have been looking forward to this event in GTA Online for weeks before the event. This shows that Rockstar already has experience with such a snow cover, and it shouldn’t be a problem for the developers to implement this in Red Dead Online.

Additionally, players already learn in the intro of Red Dead Redemption 2 how well Rockstar Games can handle snow with the cowboys. On the way to the first shelter, Arthur and his gang members trudge through the deep snow with their horses.
What could the Christmas event bring? If Rockstar Games were to launch such a Christmas event, we expect a snow map and gifts for the players. Maybe there will also be special missions or cosmetic items related to the holidays. Last year, there was a subtle Christmas update in Red Dead Online featuring music.
Hopefully, the major bugs will be fixed by the time of such an event:
