In Red Dead Online there was a silly situation in online lobbies for a long time. Animals were simply too scarce. A new patch for Red Dead Redemption 2 seems to have improved things now.
What has changed? On February 13, 2020, Rockstar Games released a patch for Red Dead Online. This inconspicuous update supposedly fixed a problem players had been struggling with for weeks.

One of the three roles in RDO is the trader. His tasks include obtaining animal carcasses, pelts, and other items from animals and processing and/or selling them. However, in recent weeks and months, animals have been hardly found in the online world.
Now, finally, it seems the problem has been fixed. In the patch notes, Rockstar Games announced:
February 13, 2020 – General bug fixes (PS4/Xbox One)
Improvements to reduce issues with wildlife populations in the vicinity during certain Red Dead Online sessions. Ongoing improvements are on the way to reduce these issues across all platforms.

Hackers also found the other extreme: Cowboys reported about mountains of dead animals
This is how the update affects the game
This is new: Shortly after the update was activated, players reported improvements. Data miner TezFunz2 reported on Twitter about his first experiences. The launch was rough and showed that spawns improved depending on player sessions.
A few hours later, he was able to confirm the improved spawns in more sessions. He could see that the patch brought the improvements into the game.
This is what players say: According to some players, it still heavily depends on the session you get. Sometimes the spawns remain low. It would help to switch sessions.
A player writes on Reddit: “I was in a session with 25 players today and there were many animals. No problem building the camp.”
In response, another player says: “It is definitely better, but it still seems to depend on luck what servers you get. Because sometimes it’s still hard to find animals.”
In this Reddit thread, a player writes that for him the spawns have improved and he even saw a buffalo herd. In the replies, players write that the last patches brought improvements.
Players are now sharing their encounters with animals and are pleased that Red Dead Online is running well again:
