In Red Dead Online there is a new update, but players are responding rather coldly to the changes. Especially a small feature from the patch notes is causing irritation.
What kind of update is this? The update was released on September 6, but without prior announcement. Moreover, the update is about 5 GB in size, which apparently fueled hopes among some players in the Red Dead Online subreddit for some gameplay innovations.
However, the contents of the update are not that extensive. The highlight is three new hardcore telegram missions, where you can take on cultists. You can now also start these missions from the player menu and the camp.
In addition, there are some other adjustments and mainly bug fixes. And another feature stands out in the patch notes (via support.rockstar), as it is even directly listed in second place: “A link to the credits has been added to the pause menu.”
You can now jump directly from the main menu to the credits.
Players had hoped for a bigger update for Red Dead Online
This is what players say: In the subreddit for Red Dead Online, the update is seen critically. Red Dead Online has long been considered a dusty game that too rarely receives major updates and content that could draw players back in. The last major expansion dates back to July 2021.
The three telegram missions are simply too few for some players:

- “3 disappointing telegram missions, a few bug fixes, graphic improvements (only for PC). Yep, that’s Rockstar” (via reddit).
Moreover, the credits feature is causing laughter:

Perhaps Evil West is an alternative for Red Dead fans:
A little praise is at least given for some graphic improvements and new merchant bonuses. Overall, however, the update is not very popular.
However, Rockstar had already announced in a blog post in July that updates to RDO would no longer bring major content expansions, but rather smaller ones like these telegram missions.
The upcoming GTA 6 also plays a role – as Rockstar explained in the blog post that more and more development resources would be shifted to the new installment of the Grand Theft Auto series. Meanwhile, the wait for the reveal of GTA 6 continues.
