As part of the Summer Game Fest, there was a new trailer for ’83. The MMO shooter is set to release on Steam and will throw you into an alternative reality where the Cold War has ignited. MeinMMO summarizes what is currently known.
What kind of game is ’83 exactly? The military first-person shooter is being developed by Blue Dot Games, was announced five years ago, and received a new trailer at the PC Gaming Show during the Summer Game Fest 2024.
The MMO throws players into an alternative reality where the Cold War has ignited and an open conflict arises between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. The developers promise
- large maps where 80 or more players fight against each other
- access to realistic equipment for infantry combat and vehicles for ground and air combat
- realistic systems such as ballistic calculations of projectiles, penetration power, recoil, and advanced weapon handling

Who is developing ’83? Behind the MMO shooter are developers who have made a name for themselves with the “Rising Storm” franchise. This tactical shooter, which evolved from Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, also places a strong emphasis on realistic combat.
Despite outdated graphics and high entry barriers, the first part of the series (from 2013) received a Metacritic score of 82 and a user score of 8.4. On Steam, the “Game of the Year” edition of Rising Storm boasts a strong 98 percent positive reviews. Similarly, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam from 2017 also scores very positively on Steam (87 percent positive).
When is ’83 coming out? The developers know how to implement realistic shooter action. However, it is unfortunately unclear how long ’83 will remain in development. Steam mentions an “upcoming announcement.”
Delays in development occurred due to licensing issues. The IP rights for ’83 lie with the Swedish company Enad Global 7 (which is behind Daybreak Game Company), forcing Blue Dot Games to halt development in 2022. Both parties were able to reach an agreement in November 2023. For more exciting shooting action: These 8 extraordinary shooters on Steam were once just a mod
