Razer has introduced its latest gaming mouse, the Viper 8K. It features an exceptionally high polling rate, which is particularly important for players of fast games like shooters. MeinMMO presents the mouse and explains what makes it special.
Here’s what it’s about: After Razer already presented new gaming laptops and an innovative gaming chair at CES 2021, Razer today unveiled its latest gaming mouse.
This is the Viper 8K. It is primarily aimed at fans of fast games like Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, or Apex Legends.
Razer Viper 8K is claimed to be the “world’s fastest gaming mouse”
What the Razer Viper 8K offers: With the Focus+ sensor, which resolves at 20,000 DPI, 8 buttons, and Razer switches, the manufacturer delivers familiar quality in its mouse. The Focus+ sensor has already been used in the Razer Naga Pro tested by MeinMMO and has proven to be highly accurate.
Razer incorporates its new “Razer Hyperpolling technology” in its new Viper. This is intended to allow the mouse to have an extraordinarily high polling rate. Razer itself refers to the Viper 8K as the “world’s fastest gaming mouse.”
What makes the gaming mouse special: Razer relies on a polling rate of 8000 Hz for the Viper 8K.
The polling rate describes how quickly mouse movements and button clicks reach your PC. For fans of fast games, faster is always better. Thus far, the recommended polling rate has been between 500 and 1000 Hz.
A higher polling rate results in smoother mouse pointer movement because the position is queried more frequently. This allows for more precise aiming and clicking and helps to better assess your own movements.
Razer is the first hardware manufacturer to implement such a high polling rate. This is especially interesting for shooter players. People who spend their time in calmer or more casual games don’t find the polling rate as crucial.

In addition to the Viper 8K, there are already the previous Viper, the particularly small variant Viper Mini, and the Viper Ultimate, which represents the wireless variant. By the way, we at MeinMMO consider the Razer Viper Ultimate to be one of the best gaming mice for shooters that you can currently purchase.
What’s the difference from the old Viper? Razer has fundamentally revised the old mouse. The Viper 8K uses better buttons with the 2nd generation Razer switches and the accuracy of the sensor has been further improved. The Viper 8K is 71 grams, 3 grams heavier than the old Viper (68 grams).
The biggest difference is definitely the significantly higher polling rate of the Viper 8K compared to the old mouse. The old Viper only offers 1000 Hz.
