The hardware manufacturer Razer aims to support emerging streamers on Twitch. Streamers can sign up for the new program #RazerStreamer and receive quests to earn free hardware or fame.
What is RazerStreamer? Razer is primarily known for its colorful gaming hardware and crazy toasters. But starting today, July 9, 2019, Razer also wants to make a name for itself as a supporter of streamers on Twitch. With the #RazerStreamer program, newcomers in the streaming field are to be supported.
To this end, Razer offers both discounts on hardware and support mediation. Additionally, there are quests for dedicated streamers. But there is also a catch: what does Razer gain from this?
What does RazerStreamer bring for streamers? If a streamer participates in RazerStreamer, Razer advertises with these benefits:
- Discounts on Razer hardware, for example the Kraken headset
- The opportunity to participate in the Razer affiliate program and thus earn a commission when fans purchase Razer hardware
- The chance to be featured as a streamer on the Razer Live page
- The first 500 participants each month also receive a free membership for 30 days in the professional streamer community Pipeline.
There is also the possibility to qualify for the bonus program RazerQuest.
Quests for streamers with hardware as rewards
What is RazerQuest? This program is a bonus for dedicated streamers. Each month there are selected challenges, such as “Show the best kill in Apex Legends”.
For this, there are tangible prizes like free hardware, vouchers, or rewards.
In addition, particularly impressive actions are recorded on Razer Live and the Spotlight page “Streamer of the Month”. This is meant to help streamers gain more attention.
Through Razer quests, the “gamification” – that is, imparting achievements through game-like elements – is intended to motivate a streamer to achieve greater performance and progress.
How can one participate? Participation in RazerStreamer is free and takes place on the official RazerStreamer page.
The use of Razer hardware is not mandatory, so one can continue using hardware from other providers. However, for participation in RazerQuests, it is required to use at least one Razer device.
Are there any costs? Participation in RazerStreamer is supposed to be free. You can also stop at any time and are not permanently bound to Razer by a contract.
What does Razer gain from this?
The benefits of the streaming program sound quite promising. You get a starting boost, rewards, and attention as a streamer. But what does Razer gain from this?
The hardware manufacturer is not doing this out of sheer goodwill. Because even if one is not tightly bound to Razer, participating in the program signals to followers that one stands behind Razer and promotes their products.
Through the participants, Razer receives a lot of attention and essentially free advertising. Especially by unlocking goodies through Razer quests, which might then be given away to followers, Razer gains additional attention and potentially ties itself and the followers closer to Razer than one originally intended.
This need not be a bad thing and could potentially be a win/win situation. However, every streamer should consider how closely they want to work with established brands like Razer and others at the start of their career.
