At E3 2018, Capcom and Square Enix announced the collaboration of their games Final Fantasy XIV and Monster Hunter: World. New information now suggests that the fight against Rathalos in FFXIV will be an instanced trial.
The two producers of FFXIV and MHW, Naoki Yoshida and Ryozo Tsujimoto, have been friends for a long time and decided over a beer 8 years ago that their games had to collaborate.

Rathalos will have a “hard version”
During the producer’s letter at E3, Naoki Yoshida, the director and producer of Final Fantasy XIV, emphasized that the crossover event with Monster Hunter: World will be quite large in scope.
The developers decided during development to exceed the budget and time limitations for the crossover project because they felt it wouldn’t be fun to just throw Rathalos into FFXIV.

When Naoki Yoshida first faced a Rathalos in MHW, he claimed the beast practically beat him into the hospital. Therefore, the producer of Final Fantasy XIV did not want such a legendary monster as Rathalos to be made into a simple low-level FATE.
In an interview with IGN, the producer of Final Fantasy XIV hinted that the fight against Rathalos will have “a normal and a hard mode.” This suggests that Rathalos will have its own trial battle.

However, the developers have also hidden clues in the trailer. In it, you can see a well-balanced group consisting of two tanks, healers, and 4 DPS, which is perfect for a trial.
Upon closer inspection, the entire trailer strongly resembles an opening cutscene from a trial battle.
Rathalos should live up to its reputation
The crossover with Monster Hunter: World will be different than the usual events of this kind. The Palico from MHW will be an NPC in FFXIV, from whom players will obtain the quests for the crossover.

Players will have to meet the following requirements if they want to start the quest line for the MHW crossover:
- Level 70 with at least one combat job
- Completion of the main scenario of FFXIV: Stormblood
Yoshida told IGN that the event “will feel different than players are used to.” In order to implement Rathalos into the world of Final Fantasy XIV, the developers, according to Yoshida, “had to come up with a completely new mechanic.”
To give players enough time to enjoy the event, it will be active for a much longer period than usual. It can likely be compared to the GARO event in PvP, which has been available for over half a year now.
In return, players from Monster Hunter: World will receive the iconic beast Behemoth from Final Fantasy:
