The weekend starts extremely well for many Pokémon GO trainers. Countless rare Pokémon are invading selected cities, delighting the players. The reason for this is a special event that the developers announced just yesterday.
Yesterday, many trainers were surprised by the news that a spontaneous Pokémon GO event is set to start this weekend. Originally, Safari Zone events were supposed to start today, August 5th, but these were postponed by the developers at short notice.
As compensation, there are now particularly rare Pokémon to catch in many cities in Europe. And during the event, they are anything but “rare” there.
Cities are packed with Icognito and Kangama
Last night, we reported on the surprising event affecting many cities in Europe. However, it’s not actually that surprising, as Niantic gave the crucial hint when some Safari Zone events were postponed.
On August 5th, Safari events were supposed to take place in Copenhagen and Prague. For “reasons”, Niantic has postponed these events to a later, unknown date. Furthermore, it was mentioned, “As a special surprise, Pokémon that can only be seen very rarely in Europe will appear for a short time in various European cities. Keep your eyes open!”
This quote left many questions unanswered. But now it’s clear what Niantic meant: They are flooding the cities with rare Pokémon.
And we don’t mean that “one might pop up here and there”. In the embedded screenshots below, you can see what we mean. Reports of the masses of rare Pokémon are accumulating in our Facebook group for Pokémon GO.

When and whether other rare or regional Pokémon like Tauros, Porenta or Corasonn will appear more frequently is unfortunately still unclear. For now, trainers can upgrade their collections with Kangama and Icognito.
