In Destiny 2 there are some Public Events in the Open World. They constantly rotate through the locations and are always worth a visit. Since Lightfall, however, there is also a special Public Event that is extremely difficult, guarantees exotic loot, and is so rare that some Guardians thought it was just a rumor.
What event is it? In Destiny 2, there are currently some events that you can encounter while exploring the open world. They start regularly, have a pleasant difficulty level, and are a nice pastime for any Guardian passing by.
However, with Destiny 2: Lightfall came a new Public Event that is very different. It is called “Vex Strike Force Incoming” and is really rare. So rare that some Guardians already consider it a rumor.
In the meantime, we can however confirm at MeinMMO: The event exists and it is extremely rewarding – not only because of the Neomuna triumph “Surplus Surprise Attack”.
A Vexed Form of the Escalation Protocol
How to find the event? First of all, the event with the “Vex Strike Force” is well concealed and really rare. If you want to discover it, you have to look very carefully, because it initially looks like an inconspicuous, normal Public Event on the map.
- The event “Vex Strike Force Incoming” takes place in the currently active Vex incursion zone at the Lightfall destination Neomuna
- You can recognize the active zone by the fine, green stripes that trickle across the map
- To discover it, you need to constantly check the event marking
- If you are already in the Open World, look out for the event flag or the huge Vex Conflux in the sky.

Now you either need a lot of patience or a bit of luck. It is not uncommon for Guardians to report that they have not even discovered or played this event since the start of Lightfall on February 28, 2023.
The Destiny editorial team at MeinMMO had a waiting time of over an hour during their first attempt to catch the event. And this, even though Bungie recently increased the spawn rate of the event.
But this period seems to fit, as other players also noted that the event would often take place ten minutes after the full hour.
The event gets tough: If you are lucky, the fun really begins. The event is basically the mother of all Public Events and somewhat reminiscent of the old Escalation Protocol from Mars.
- During the event, you must defeat 6 huge Abkömmliche Minotaurs to close the open Vex network portals again.
- The mechanics consist of breaking the shields of the Minotaurs over and over again and then dealing damage.
- To make it not too easy, new Vex spawn permanently and wobble towards you.
- There is also a timer that runs mercilessly and puts you under pressure
- The power level rating of the enemies is 1,810 and is subject to the Open World penalty of Neomuna. Players cannot overlevel and thereby trivialize the event.
Consequently, those who want the loot almost certainly need the help of other Guardians or their fireteam to succeed.
This is what you get out of it: The challenging event “Vex Strike Force Incoming” offers you something for your effort.
- Upon first completion, you will receive the ritual triumph “Surplus Surprise Attack”
- Furthermore, a 100% guaranteed exotic armor piece from the loot box will be available if you were successful.
- Moreover, the latest DLC exotics that you have not yet earned will also drop, making the event an alternative to solo farming in the Lost Sectors.
- Also included is a terminal overload key, an increase in Neomuna reputation rank with Nimbus, and of course Glimmer and experience points.
These issues does the event have at the moment: Currently, the event still has flaws. Some players report strange crashes and black screens just before the event ends, especially on consoles. Here, Bungie must improve and ensure that everyone who participated can finish the rare event.
Have you had the pleasure of dealing with the Abkömmliche Minotaurs? Or has this almost secret event completely escaped your notice? Feel free to write in the comments how long it took you before you played the event for the first time and whether bugs held you back.
