In the successful tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege , Ubisoft has now admitted that there is currently a special kind of cheating that is causing issues. Players are “freezing lobbies”. However, Ubisoft is already on it. With a recent update, they aim to collect more data, and with another one, they will automatically detect and kick the cheaters.
This is Ubisoft’s statement: In a blog post from Rainbow Six Siege on April 23, it states that they have recently observed an increase in reports from players about cheating incidents.
Ubisoft clearly states: “We do not tolerate this.”
They are determined to maintain the integrity of Rainbow Six Siege and will therefore take action against these cheaters in the near future.
How tough Ubisoft takes on cheaters was noticeable in the summer of 2019, when some thought they were particularly clever and could hinder their opponents in Rainbow Six Siege through deliberately induced lags.
The round in Rainbow Six Siege no longer starts
This is the “nasty type” of cheating: It involves “lobby freezing”. Ubisoft does not elaborate on what exactly this exploit entails.
As reported by Gamespot, players intentionally manipulate the game here to freeze a lobby to their own advantage.
Lobby freezing apparently occurs between rounds, while a new round is loading. This “loading” goes on indefinitely, and the match does not begin. The lobby is frozen. This way, cheaters want to prevent losing the next round, which would count as a defeat.
For the people on the opposing team, standing on the brink of victory, this is frustrating. Not only do they miss out on the win, but they also waste valuable time in the game while hanging around in such a lobby.
Tutorials on how to freeze a lobby are circulating on YouTube.
First collect data, then take action
This is what Ubisoft aims to do: Ubisoft announces that in a new update, they will implement measures to better detect lobby freezers. Later, in another update, they plan to use this data to automatically find and kick such cheaters.
Ubisoft is currently asking players for feedback. The two biggest problems appear to be “lobby freezing” and “DDoS” attacks.
It is noted:
- DDoS attacks usually occur during a round, causing players to experience lags or disconnections.
- A lobby freezing occurs between rounds and not during gameplay. The ping is normal.
These are two different types of problems. Ubisoft asks players to answer various questions to narrow down the issue (via Ubisoft Forum).

We reported on MeinMMO about cheaters in Rainbow Six Siege back in June 2019. At that time, a player had a really lame excuse for his “superior performance.”
