The new update for Rainbow Six Siege is between 60 and 87 GB for PC players, due to data consolidation and the next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
The “Neon Dawn” update of Season 4 of Year 5 in Rainbow Six Siege is now live. Server maintenance started at 2:00 PM and ended at 6:00 PM. For PC players, the download size varies between 60 and 87 GB, due to the HD Texture Pack. The data consolidation aims to save overall storage space and reduce the overall size of the game as well as improve loading times.
If you own an Xbox Series X/S or a PS5, you’re in luck regarding the size of the download. The update is relatively small at 3.2 GB and 5.38 GB for the PS5.
How large the new update will be on different platforms:
- PC: 60-87GB (depending on whether with or without HD Texture Pack)
- Series X: 3.2 GB
- Xbox One: 35.9 GB
- PS4: 35.9 GB
- PS5: 5.38 GB
If you owned Rainbow Six Siege on PS4 or Xbox One, you can get a free upgrade for PS5 or Xbox Series X/S in 4K and up to 120 FPS.

The new defender Aruni

Who is Aruni? After the operator Zero from the “Shadow Legacy” update, the new operator Alpha “Aruni” Tawanroong comes next. She hails from Thailand and brings a host of laser gadgets as a defender. Her strongest gadget is the “Surya Barrier”, which Aruni can place on walls, doors, windows, or hatches. The respective opening is protected by a laser net that cannot be destroyed.
Throwables, drones, or projectiles are destroyed by the laser net, and attackers take 40 damage when they pass through the net. The net is inactive for a short time after being triggered and recharges.
Aruni has already been known from a leak, where her equipment and abilities were also shown.
What equipment does Aruni have with her: As primary weapons, Aruni carries the P10 Roni or the Mk 14 EBR, and as a secondary weapon, she has the Beretta “PRB92”. Her gadgets include a proximity alarm and barbed wire.
Aruni’s prosthetic arm is impressive: With her prosthetic arm, Aruni can create openings in destructible walls comparable to the shotgun entry hole. She also destroys barricades with her futuristic arm after a hit.
What attackers can do against Aruni: Relatively little. Her laser net is indestructible and only becomes inactive when triggered or hit by an EMP. Attackers often have only a short window of time to overcome the laser net.
Complete overhaul of the Skyscraper map
What has changed: The Skyscraper map previously featured numerous balconies. The number of balconies is reduced and their placement is shifted with Neon Dawn. This change aims to prevent the previous crossfire. The map still has three main objectives, and the bomb locations have been aligned.
Lastly, the rotation on the second floor has also been adjusted on both sides. Overall, this should make the Skyscraper map more competitive.
These changes are also included in Y5S4
Accessibility options implemented: With the new season, players gain the ability to activate voice-to-text and text-to-voice for the chat. Players receive additional chat support through automatic reading of hints from the options menu. Audiovisual hints and text scaling can also be adjusted in size.
Changes to game balancing: Operators who rush outside are revealed after one second instead of the previous two seconds. The detection alarm has been replaced in the UI with a display.
Additionally, players now have the option to return to the match if they lose connection.
Two operators receive significant nerfs: Echo’s drones were invisible until the “Neon Dawn” update. This made Echo the most banned operator in the history of Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft has drastically weakened his Yokai drones, and they completely lose their invisibility.
Whether Echo will be banned less by Rainbow Six Siege Pros in the future remains to be seen.
The second major gadget nerf goes to Jäger: The most played operator is easy to play, and his ADS device reliably intercepted grenades. With the new update, the trap has a 10-second cooldown after a projectile is intercepted.
The extensive changes of the new update can be read on the Rainbow Six Siege website by Ubisoft.
