The popular tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege has received a new Battle Pass. In this, there are brand new skins that buyers (and non-buyers) can unlock. However, they are not well received at the moment…
What is the problem? Since Rainbow Six: Siege received a new Battle Pass on March 25, players with this pass can unlock new skins and other contents by completing tasks and leveling up.
The skins , however, do not meet the expectation that Ubisoft had previously raised. Fans are angry and expect an apology, partly because they believe that much more work went into a previously available skin via Twitch Prime.
New Skins in the Battle Pass
What is the Battle Pass? With the new “Around the World: Battle Pass,” players can unlock various items over a total of 35 tiers from March 25 to April 22, 2020.
The Battle Pass is divided into two paths: free and paid. Those who want to buy the pass pay 1200 credits (approximately €9.99) or 860 credits if they own the annual pass.
What skins are there? Skins in Siege roughly fall into three categories:
- Helmets
- “Outfit” (Chest Armor and Pants)
- Weapons
In the free track, there are a total of three skin packs with random skins, as well as three special Battle Pass skins for the operators. The paid Battle Pass has significantly more. Just for purchasing, there is a complete outfit for the operator Castle.
This is the problem with the skins: For the additional skins, Ubisoft uploaded a teaser image in advance. This was supposed to roughly show what skins players could expect. However, a comparison on reddit shows that the skins in the game itself are not nearly as impressive as the concept art was. Fans are even calling for an apology:
In another another reddit thread with over 20,000 upvotes, players complain that far too little effort went into the skins. Instead of an often-requested outfit, there is just a new color for existing outfits.
Rainbow Six: Siege recently set a new player record.
Pizza Skin Causes More Unrest
What is this skin? Just shortly before the release of the Battle Pass, on March 24, Ubisoft introduced a pizza skin for the operator Mozzie. This can be obtained for free by any Twitch Prime user when linking their accounts.
However, players find that it does not fit into the game at all (via GameStar). There was already significant criticism for this.
Here’s why players are now angry: Players are dissatisfied because they believe that even in this Mozzie skin, more work went into it. At least that is claimed by reddit user tallguyfilms in a comment rated with over 2,600 upvotes.
That such a skin seems to have cost more work and is still offered to many for almost free, while the new skins must be paid for with the Battle Pass, clearly does not sit well with players.
They see the new skins as only “recolors” of old skins, that is, the same skin that has already existed, with a new color.
Despite the current discontent, Rainbow Six remains very popular. Just recently, a player impressed tens of thousands with a perfect round.
