Rainbow Six Quarantine is set to release in 2021. Much more is not known about the new co-op shooter from Ubisoft yet. However, a new leak now shows gameplay that contains some details suggesting possible features. Players of Rainbow Six Siege may recognize some similarities.
What kind of leak is this? It is a short scene of just about four seconds and another image that has appeared in the Rainbow Six subreddit. The scene originates from a now-deleted video from Streamable and is still available as a gif on gfycat:
In it, a player is seen shooting at a black mass and an orange, slightly glowing sack, which could possibly be an egg sack. In Quarantine, an alien parasite is supposed to cause a contagious infection.
The leaked screenshot shows only a drawn weapon and the game’s interface. The scene itself is dark and blurry, so not much can be discerned:
Although there is not much to see in either leak, features can be derived from the content and details that might make it into the finished game.
Possible Features of Quarantine in Gameplay Leak
What features are these? Anyone who knows Rainbow Six Siege might already be able to derive several features from the interface. Notable points include:
- The operators Vigil, Tachanka, and Lion – additional operators and classes are already known from a leak in January 2020
- Weapons and attachments like those from Rainbow Six Siege – Vigil’s K1A, for instance, uses the well-known holo sight
- Operator gadgets – in the clips, the symbols of Vigil’s ability ERT-7 and Lion’s ability EE-ONE-D are shown on the right, as seen in Siege
- A time limit of 15 minutes – apparently, missions can only be completed within a limited time; what happens if you fail is still unclear
- The game mode “Escort” – visible in the screenshot, where Lion has the option to abort the escort. It is likely to play similarly to “Hostage” in Siege
- “Workshop” as a location – there appear to be various maps or areas to explore
- Limited ammunition – Vigil notes: ‘Here is ammunition.’ So, it could be that you only have a limited amount of shots for your guns during missions and need to find more
In addition, buttons for a flashlight and grenades are visible. Since this is a leak, none of these features necessarily have to be true, but they all sound very likely. After all, Quarantine and Siege are closely related.
Only with the ‘how?’ are there still many open questions. Many of the operators’ abilities are designed for PvP, which is not supposed to exist in Quarantine. They will likely need to be adjusted, and it’s still unclear what that will look like. Items such as Lion’s stun grenade or the extra devices on button 6 are also not yet known in their functionality. How weapons can be adjusted is also still unclear.
What is Quarantine really about? Quarantine is supposed to be a sort of successor to the Outbreak event of Rainbow Six Siege from March and April 2018 and thus likely also follows the story.
There, an alien parasite also infested the Earth, and players had to fight against this parasite in a PvE mode. As part of the corresponding season, the operators Lion and Finka were introduced. They may play a larger role.
Rainbow Six Quarantine: Release and Beta
When is Rainbow Six Quarantine coming out? Quarantine was originally supposed to be released in 2020 after being announced at E3 2019. However, after several delays, Ubisoft has now decided on a release in the first half of the fiscal year 2021 – that is between April and September 2021. There is no exact date yet.
Is there a beta? Originally, a beta was planned for earlier, for which you could sign up in 2019. However, there are currently no more details about it on the official Quarantine website. There is only the opportunity to “play early” on the English website. Whether and when a beta will take place remains open.
It is also unclear whether and how Siege and Quarantine will work together. Given their close relationship, cross-promotions and any new operators in Quarantine, which Siege continuously receives through updates, would be possible. There is always a lot happening there: Siege is getting its first gay operator, for example.
