The quarterly figures from Q4 2016 of NCSoft are available. The most important figure is missing. The troubled WildStar is missing.
The autumn/winter quarter of 2016 went well for NCSoft. Especially the oldie Lineage saw a significant increase, as can be seen from the revenue.
Sales figures of Aion, Guild Wars 2 and Blade & Soul are solid in Q4
The three games relevant to us in the West remained relatively stable. Aion was able to gain slightly. Blade & Soul and Guild Wars 2 remained at their level with slight losses.
It is noticeable that Blade and Soul is now significantly stronger than Guild Wars 2. A year ago, the titles were still equal. Since the brief upturn from the “Heart of Thorns” expansion, Guild Wars 2 has fallen significantly. Blade and Soul has risen after its release in Europe and North America.
The troubled WildStar no longer appears in the sales figures for the first time since its release. It is now only listed under “Other Sales”. What this means for the future of the F2P title is now speculation. In no case is this a good sign.
After having played the trump cards “Free2Play transition” and “Steam launch,” the developers are currently working on a massive update that is supposed to overhaul the gameplay mechanics in WildStar. They plan to introduce a sort of paragon system and “quality levels” like in Diablo 3. Characters should be able to improve after reaching the maximum level, and the difficulty of certain instances will be adjustable.
