PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds reaches a new sales milestone. In just three months since release, the battle royale shooter has already sold over 4 million copies. And that, even though the game is not finished yet.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is a phenomenon. The battle royale shooter by modding legend Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene was released in early access on Steam just three months ago and sold like hotcakes during a heatwave.
Just shortly after release, the game recorded earnings of 11 million US dollars in just 4 days.
Later, it easily surpassed the Steam hit Ark and the previous battle royale frontrunner H1Z1: King of the Kill. But that’s not all, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has recently set a new sales record.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – A massive success despite early access
By now, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has already sold over 4 million copies three months after release. The game is not even finished yet, suffering from bugs, lags, and occasional exploits like undead and immortal players. Furthermore, it is only available for PC players so far, the planned versions for PS4 and Xbox One still have no release date.
But the battle royale carnage is still fun, the team at Bluehole Studios regularly releases updates and patches, and despite lags and bugs, the battles are just a blast. Players also create excitement with fun antics like pacifist game winners, running riot in the bunker, or sneaky car campers.
Moreover, the game with its long exploration and camping phases is ideal for all streamers, who can share all sorts of anecdotes with their viewers during these breaks.
What do you think about the great success of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds? Have you played it yet? And do you think the hype around the game is justified? Or is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds just a completely overrated, unfinished early access game that is not worth its money? Let us know your opinion and write it in the comments!
