One of the most important features on players’ wishlists PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) has long been a region lock. But that is now causing problems, since it is here.
Anyone who has followed the PUBG scene a bit in recent months will have seen this one big wish from the community. Players wanted a region lock so that Chinese players could only play on servers in their region.
For a long time, the PUBG team was against such a feature. Now it is active and the community is noticing that it doesn’t work.
“Regional exclusion is the dumbest thing!”
What happened? The cries for regional matchmaking grew louder as many players from China came to servers in other regions.
Players and even the anti-cheat service BattlEye have said that Chinese players make up a large part of the cheaters in PUBG.
They called for “Region Lock”: For the community, it was clear how to solve the cheating problem. With their demand for a region lock, they insisted that Chinese players could only play on servers in their region. No longer in NA or EU.
This went so far that they would rather have a region lock than gifted in-game currency.
PUBG gives in: Originally, the PUBG team was against such a measure. Brendan Greene, known as PlayerUnknown, said “it just doesn’t work.”
Now they listened to the community’s wish, which had clearly expressed the demand for a region lock under the Steam posts of PUBG for months.
Okay, a kind of region lock is here: Since the latest PUBG update, players are supposed to be directed to servers in their region to play. Exceptions only exist if playing with a friend from another region. At least that was the plan.
Now players are angry: In the Steam forums, many PUBG players are now complaining about the region lock after the update:
- There will probably be problems with ping.
- Others are writing that they are now having trouble finding matches.
- Again, others explain that they are now playing more often with cheaters.
One particular post stands out with the title “Regional exclusion is the dumbest thing yet” (via Steam forums).
Another new feature is coming to PUBG soon, which fans are already looking forward to. The snow map is coming to PUBG and these are the first images of it
