The island of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) would be excellent for a single-player campaign. The developers would love it, but they currently lack the time for it.
On Reddit, Brendan “Player Unknown” Greene answered questions from the community. In an “Ask me anything,” he addressed the comments of many users who wanted to know more about graphics, performance, future plans, and a single-player feature.
He would love to integrate a single-player campaign into the game if it weren’t for the issue of time…

PUBG Single-player Mode, Crouch-Jump, Graphics, Sound
In the Ask-Me-Anything thread on Reddit, the topics varied widely. Players asked PlayerUnknown if he had ever had a Chicken Dinner (Yes!) or if he would rather
a) fight against six horses the size of a frying pan or
b) fight against a frying pan the size of a horse.
Greene chose the six horses because the thought of a giant frying pan scares him too much.
However, the Q&A session also touched on serious topics:
- THIS CRASH! Many inquired about the development of the “sound.” The volume levels of various weapons and actions are often too loud and not balanced with other sounds, which are significantly quieter. The wind during parachuting and especially the airplanes annoy players.
- Greene replied that his team is already working on balancing the different sounds and hopes to bring these changes to the live servers soon™. “We can’t just make certain sounds quieter. We need to ensure everything is balanced.” With a readable grin, he adds, “We have heard your feedback loud and clear. Changes are on the way!”
- Singleplayer in PUBG? Reddit user Ang0d asks Greene: What things would you personally like to see in the game?
- “I would love to add a single-player campaign to the game. I think the island could be a great setting for an interesting story. But unfortunately, we currently have neither the time nor the resources left for this,” writes Greene.
- Why was the Crouch-Jump keybind removed? Players wonder why the developers removed the keybind for Crouch-Jumps before the introduction of Vaulting. With Crouch-Jumps, players can jump out of windows or overcome obstacles that they cannot cross with a “normal” jump.
- Greene explains that the team did not remove the action itself. Players can still Crouch-Jump. However, now it requires skill and not a key on the keyboard that was previously assigned to two actions simultaneously.
- According to the developers, players with such a keybinding had an advantage over those who were unaware of the possibility.
- And what about performance? A large part of the questions targeted the optimization of PUBG. “It takes too much power,” “My computer is good, but struggles with PUBG,” are the key statements from many questions.
- In summary: The Bluehole team is still working on optimizing the game.
What about blue zones? And is there going to be a ranking system like in CS:GO soon?
In a response regarding the blue zones, Greene states that he has already met with the team. The blue zones are to become fairer and they hope to be able to test the changes soon. However, he cannot specify an approximate date.
Familiar ranking systems from CS:GO or Overwatch rank players into specific skill categories based on their MMR. For ranked matches, the PUBG developers also plan such a system.
Additionally, they would like to implement a level system for characters and weapon skill systems (which do not affect gameplay). These progression systems are viewed positively. So far, however, the plans have not been fully developed to announce further information about them.
