The developers want to compensate PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) players with Battle Points, but they would rather exclude China.
In recent weeks, players in PUBG received too little in-game currency as a reward for completed matches. The people responsible for the battle royale shooter apologized for this and explained that affected players should be compensated. However, they want something entirely different.
“Better ban China than give away Battle Points”
Since the release of PUBG Version 1.0 in December 2017, there have been issues with the distribution of Battle Points, the in-game currency of the game. You can use BP to purchase loot boxes.
In the Steam forums, the developers apologized for the BP shortage and announced compensations. These Battle Points are now being distributed to players worldwide and should soon appear in your accounts. A pop-up will appear when starting the game:
You have until February 9 to confirm the BP credit and add it to your account. If you click “confirm” on this message in the game after February 9, you will not receive any Battle Points.
The responses to the apology, however, address a completely different topic
Many commenters on Steam don’t care about the developers’ apology – just like about compensation. On over 500 pages, you can repeatedly read comments demanding a ban on China for PUBG – some of them even extremely racist.
Recently, Steam has seen many players from China joining, playing PUBG. However, this also led to many new cheaters finding their way into the game. PUBG’s head Brendan Greene explained in an interview that a large number of cheats come from China.
Now players are demanding radical penalties and want to completely remove Chinese players from the game. However, players should not have too many hopes for a region lock for China, as Brendan Greene cannot understand such wishes. “Why should we prevent them from playing on certain servers? I simply do not understand the mindset of some people.”
