In PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the developers announced a one-week joke. It will transform the battle royale game into a fantasy world – and quite a silly one.
What have the developers planned? On their homepage, the developers have almost spun a saga around their joke this year. It says there: “So listen, you noble fighters from all over the world: This week a unique Spectaculum will be offered in the land of Erangel.”
This “unique Spectaculum” will be a one-week special mode in celebration of April 1st.
A pretty big thematic jump, considering the regular direction of PUBG, which is currently doing well on Steam, . But the developers seem motivated – and even crafted a crazy trailer:
They probably wanted to treat themselves to a bit of change, as the developers said on the official homepage: “April 1st is a celebrated tradition in the gaming world. Whether with funny videos, fake patch notes, or even complete in-game events … It is the time of year when teams can let loose a little and try something completely different. And for us, in this case, it means: Fantasy Battle Royale.”
After some pretty silly real scenes, you actually see some fantasy-based gameplay in the trailer. So it seems to be not just an elaborate, one-day early joke. At least the remaining, comprehensive descriptions on the PUBG homepage suggest that.
This is supposed to be Fantasy Battle Royale: Fantasy Battle Royale is supposed to be a one-week event mode from April 1st to April 8th. It didn’t cost too many resources, but it’s fun: “FBR has given us the chance to test some new fantasy ideas in a real environment.” This also includes a small crafting system, with which you can improve equipment during a match.
In addition, there will be fantasy classes:
- The Barbarian
- The Ranger
- The Wizard
- The Paladin
Each brings special abilities and orientations. Rangers, for example, sneak silently, wizards rain fire. Additionally, the motorcycle “Noble Steed” and the “Dragon Wagon” will be included, as well as some new missions for the time-limited mode. A classic battle royale match is then supposed to take place on the renamed “Dragon’s Isle”. Well then: To the steeds and off we ride.
