PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) was one of the reasons a woman attacked her boyfriend with a samurai sword at night. But somehow the game also saved the man’s life. At least, he believes so.
Alex Lovell (29) played PUBG for 12 or 13 hours a day. His plan was to become a professional eSports player. This is reported by the US site Kotaku.
His 30-year-old girlfriend Barber Emily Javier apparently had a problem with that. She felt that her boyfriend no longer gave her enough attention, only focused on PUBG. She felt neglected.
The aspiring PUBG star can somewhat understand this in hindsight. He told another site: “PUBG killed my sex drive. I just trained too hard; it drained me. I felt bad because I couldn’t give her the attention she deserved.”

Woman buys a samurai sword, plans to kill aspiring PUBG eSports boyfriend at night
The situation escalated when the girlfriend found a red hair in the shower – she herself has green hair. Furthermore, she stumbled upon the dating app Tinder when checking her boyfriend’s smartphone. She also believed she saw scratches on his back. Therefore, she thought he was cheating on her.
So the girlfriend came up with a plan: she went to a shopping mall and bought a samurai sword. For a week, she contemplated whether she should actually go through with it and then decided to attack.
She taped the samurai sword along with two knives next to her side of the bed. One night, she waited until her boyfriend fell asleep, attacked him in the light of her smartphone with the samurai sword, and seriously injured him.
Prepared for the moment his whole life
However, her boyfriend was not a “sweaty nerd,” but an eSports player, as he later said. He jumped up, wounded. According to him, he had trained hard for such a moment and had prepared his whole life for it. After all, PUBG training included exercises for the hands, wrists, shoulders. Additionally, special moves and techniques with the mouse.
Therefore, he says, he could escape the situation using the Kung Fu style “Wing Chun.” He was able to stand on one knee, which was nearly severed, and on one foot that was only hanging by a thread.
Still, the samurai attack was severe. Although he managed to put his girlfriend in a bear hug, she reached for his family jewels and tried to yank them away from him.
Lovell says: “When I saw the look in her eyes, it terrified me to death. I told her that I love her and that she was killing me. She needed to call the police now, or I would die.”
In fact, the attacker then called the emergency services, and Lovell was able to be rescued.

Severe injuries – 6 months of rehabilitation
However, Lovell nearly lost three fingers, suffered deep wounds to his feet, legs, torso, neck, and head.
It will probably take 6 months until he can walk again. Furthermore, extensive rehabilitation is necessary until Lovell can use his hands like before.
However, he seems proud to have won the fight with bare hands. He says the experience was better than anything he had achieved before in life. Indirectly, he had prepared his whole life for the moment.
His girlfriend is in jail. She is charged with attempted murder and has pleaded “not guilty.” The bail is set at $350,000.
By the way, Lovell denies having Tinder on his smartphone. The red hairs in the shower belonged to his dog. He loves his girlfriend, has no hate in him, never cheated on her, and forgave her the moment she ran out of the room to call for help.
