In December, PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) will be released for Xbox One. At the same time, the PC version 1.0 is expected to be released.
During the Paris Game Week, on October 31, the official release date for PUBG on Xbox One was announced. Starting December 12, you can play PUBG on Microsoft’s console. The release will take place via Xbox Game Preview – The game will still be in Early Access and will cost €29.99.
For visual support, HDR enhancements are available. 4K resolutions are expected to be added later.
In an interview, the PUBG developers discussed the differences between the PC and Xbox One versions.
The Xbox One version will initially lag behind the PC version in content
When PUBG launches as an “Xbox Game Preview” version, the new climbing feature will already be activated. However, console players will have to wait a bit longer for the new desert map, which will be unlocked for PC players in version 1.0. This is still in the early development phase and needs further adjustments.
Ultimately, the PC version and the Xbox version should have the same content. Currently, the roadmap for both versions looks different. The Xbox version is slightly behind the PC version in terms of content. However, they are working to ensure that both versions can align quickly.
Cross-play in PUBG?
Regarding “cross-play,” PUBG head Brendan Greene cannot provide any updates yet. He says: “We still want cross-play. As previously explained, we want to allow controller against controller or keyboard and mouse against keyboard and mouse. That is probably the fairest way. However, there are no updates on that yet.”
PC and Xbox versions benefit from each other
In an interview with Eurogamer, Brendan Greene explains that the two PUBG versions improve each other. The optimization of the game would be simplified because both versions run on the Unreal Engine. Improvements made in one version can therefore be transferred to the other.
Version 1.0 and Xbox Preview around the same time
It was planned that the 1.0 version of PUBG would be released sometime in 2017. This plan is still in place. Greene says that the 1.0 version and the Xbox preview release will take place around the same time.
