PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) will soon receive a weapon patch that thoroughly overhauls the guns. The developers don’t want everyone to always use the same assault rifles. They seem to be the best weapon and superior to other guns.
This is the current status: In PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, there are a lot of weapons, but when it comes down to it, nearly every player chooses an assault rifle with appropriate upgrades. Most of the time it’s an M4 or SCAR, occasionally also the Kalashnikov. Other weapons are usually only used until you find a good assault rifle.
That’s a shame because the developers have a lot of other weapons in the game that hardly get used. Even if you’re a hardcore fan of submachine guns, for reasons of effectiveness, you usually end up grabbing an assault rifle.
But that should change soon.
A Heart for All Weapons
This is how the developers want to address the issue: To allow players in PUBG to confidently choose something other than an assault rifle, the developers at Bluehole plan to thoroughly remodel the weapons in an upcoming patch. The goal is to balance them better so that each weapon has its advantages and not just a handful of assault rifles are always considered the top choice.
This could be what the solution looks like: The developers have not revealed how they want to solve the weapon dilemma yet. However, the following adjustments could be conceivable:
- Submachine guns could deal better damage at close range
- Sniper rifles could have less bullet drop, making them more effective over long distances.
- Assault rifles could deal less damage at long range, which would position them more solidly in the mid-range.
When does the weapon balance patch come? The developers have not yet said anything more specific about the planned weapon patch date. But it is said to appear “Very soon” on the PUBG test servers.
Weapon Upgrades and the Tier-3 Super Helmet Will Also Be Adjusted
In addition to the weapons, there will also be adjustments to the weapon upgrades. They are also set to become more diverse. The overpowering Tier-3 steel helmet will be removed from regular loot spawns and will only be found in supply drops. According to the developers, it practically served as an “extra life”.
