Original message from January 23rd, when the PSN also had issues.
Anyone looking to play online on their PS4 this evening is facing a problem: The PSN, the PlayStation Network, is experiencing a disruption.
Since around 5:30 PM, complaints are increasing that players cannot log into online games. Currently, at 8 PM, there is still no improvement in sight.
The PSN is not completely down; some online services are still functioning. However, the friends list takes forever to load, and logging into online games takes significantly longer than usual. In some games or specific online modes, players cannot log in at all.
If the friends list takes too long to load, the error code CE-34861-2 is displayed. This means that the PlayStation Network may be overloaded. Update: The error code is now WS-37503-8. This indicates that the PSN is undergoing maintenance.
In the meantime, there is an official statement from Sony via Twitter: They are aware that users are experiencing problems with some features in the PSN. They thank you for your patience while the developers investigate the issue.
