Sony raises prices significantly for all PS5 consoles: Who should buy now or just wait?
The RAM and storage crisis has officially hit Sony as well. Sony stated in an official blog post that they intend to increase the prices of their PS5 consoles significantly.
The price changes for the PS5 in detail: The new prices are as follows:
- PS5 – 649.99 Euros (+100 Euros)
- PS5 Digital Edition – 599.99 Euros (+100 Euros)
- PS5 Pro – 899.99 Euros (+100 Euros)
You will soon pay exactly 100 Euros more for each console. Sony explained that “this is a necessary step to ensure that we can continue to provide players worldwide with innovative, high-quality gaming experiences.”
When will the prices rise? According to Sony, starting from April 2, 2026, which is exactly one week from today. The last price increase for the PS5 occurred in August 2025, but it did not affect German customers.

Can you still buy the PS5 at the old prices? Yes, you can! The old prices still apply at Amazon, MediaMarkt, and other retailers for the PS5, the Digital Edition, and the PS5 Pro.
Who should buy now?
- You have hopelessly outdated PC hardware at home but still want to play in decent quality without buying a new PC given the high prices.
- You just want to play after work without dealing with drivers or graphics settings.
- You want to play Sony’s exclusive PS5 games, preferably right at the release date.
- You are eager to play GTA VI right at the release; then the PS5 (Pro) is currently also the best option to avoid higher costs later with a bundle.
For whom is it not worth it?
- You already have a gaming PC with modern technology (RTX 4070 / RX 9070 or faster) and exclusive games don’t matter to you, or a few years later they are sufficient through Steam.
- You want ray tracing, native 4K, and more than 60 FPS while gaming.
- You play a lot online and prefer to buy games really cheap on sale. Here the PC is the better option since the costs for PS Plus further increase the cost of the console.
- If you mainly play real-time games or things that are best controlled with a mouse and keyboard, in most cases our tip is also a gaming PC and not the PS5.
