In an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu, Sony’s Vice President Hideaki Nishino announced that there could be new PS5 hardware next year. Shortly before, an insider already explained that some developers have even possessed a successor model to the current PS5. So is the PS5 Pro possibly coming in 2023? You can find all the information in this article.
Although the PS5 was only released two years ago and the console was hardly available for a long time, there have been rumors about a Pro model for a while now. In fact, there have already been several revisions of the original console, of which the latest version allows you to save about 10% of power during gaming. It is clear: Sony is already working on improved hardware for their latest console.
In an interview with the online magazine Famitsu, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Sony’s Platform Experience Division, has reignited the rumors of a new model of the PS5.
What are these speculations? After Nishino was approached by the reporter about the fact that the PS4 Pro was released about three years after the launch of the original console, he said:
By the end of the fiscal year 2022, the cumulative sales of the PS5 will exceed 37 million units and we believe it will be a very important time for the platform. I will not be able to talk about specifics at the moment, but I hope you are looking forward to next year already.

Of course, this statement is not an official confirmation, but it still implies in the context of the previous question that we can indeed expect a hardware update for the PS5 starting April 2023 – the new fiscal year for Sony.
That Nishino refers to the PS VR2, which will also be released in the new year, is possible, but highly unlikely, as it was already announced a while ago and is now available for pre-order.
Are there currently other rumors about a new PS5? Just recently, new speculations emerged again about an upcoming new model of the coveted console, after the well-known industry insider Tom Henderson claimed that such a version already exists in the hands of some developers and “works perfectly.” This new model reportedly features a removable drive that can be seamlessly attached to the console’s chassis.
Such an innovative – and possibly significantly smaller – model could help Sony accelerate the manufacturing process of the coveted console in the future. Instead of the current two versions – the Disk and Digital Edition – there would only be one product.
This adjustment would also provide customers with more flexibility, as purchasing the drive allows one to upgrade to the Disk Version of the PS5 at any time.
Although the situation regarding the availability of the PS5 has improved tremendously in recent weeks, Sony has set ambitious goals for 2023. Since the launch of the next-gen console was not optimal due to the pandemic and the many related difficulties, the Japanese company may seize this opportunity to more or less aim for a “re-launch” of the console.
