Shortly after the announcement of the price and release date of the PS5, pre-orders started. However, contrary to Sony’s own statements, the PS5 preorder began too early and often did not go smoothly. Now the PlayStation 5 is sold out almost everywhere and many are left empty-handed – at least for now.
This is what many have been waiting for: During the PS5 event on September 16th (Here is the summary in the live ticker), it was finally time. Sony announced what many had hoped and expected: the release date and price of its next-gen console PlayStation 5.
Preorder PS5: It shows that the PS5 is indeed frequently available at various shops. It was briefly available again at Amazon, OTTO, and MediaMarkt. However, it sells out very quickly every time. Therefore, it is always worth checking back at the shops. We will of course keep you updated here.

How much does the PS5 cost?
- PS5 – Digital Edition: 399.99 €
- PS5 – Disc Edition: 499.99 €
When will the PS5 be released? In Germany, the PS5 will be available starting November 19th. In the USA, Japan, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, and South Korea, it will be available one week earlier – starting November 12, 2020.
Sony announces PS5 preorder – and causes chaos
After the event, there was some excitement within the community. Sony did not mention a single word about the preorder of the PlayStation 5 during the PS5 livestream.
When can you preorder the PS5? Shortly after 11:00 PM and after the end of the PS5 presentation, Sony provided the long-awaited information later via Twitter:
It was stated that preorders should start today (that is, September 17, 2020) with select retailers.
The leak that the preorders should start shortly after the announcement has proven to be true.
This caused chaos: However, it went differently than announced, that is, differently than what Sony communicated just minutes before. Already shortly after the tweet (still on September 16), it was possible for us in Germany to preorder the PS5 – for example at MediaMarkt.
Many other sites like Amazon or Saturn were not reachable or had taken the PS5 product page offline beforehand – apparently for updates.
Shortly after midnight, the preorders then started in full swing. But even that did not go smoothly. Many websites were overloaded and already seconds after the preorder started became unreachable.
Amazon, for example, was very slow for a long time. Even if one managed to get a PS5 into the cart, for many the site got stuck during the checkout process (probably due to overload), so the purchase could not be completed.
Even the Xbox competition mocked the course of the preorders.
PS5 already sold out
Update 9:50 AM: Apparently some shops like Otto or MediaMarkt are still accepting orders. Just a few minutes ago, it was possible to order the PS5 at Otto again, now it is sold out there again.
Also, at MediaMarkt and Saturn, a reorder was briefly possible again. It might be worthwhile to regularly check the pages of major retailers if you really want to preorder the PlayStation 5.
This happened quickly: Only a few minutes after the preorders went live, only the Digital Version of the PS5 was available from numerous vendors. Shortly thereafter, this was also sold out – already a few hours after midnight.
This is the current status: Currently (September 17th, 7:30 AM), the PlayStation 5 is sold out at all major vendors in Germany such as MediaMarkt, Saturn, Otto, Expert, or Amazon. So if you found out too late or wanted to preorder only this morning, you might be left empty-handed for now.
On eBay, offers beyond 800 € are popping up like mushrooms. In the USA, many are complaining that the PS5 was already sold out before preorders even officially started there.
Sony promised to manufacture more consoles than at the launch of the PS4, but judging by the first reactions, not every interested party has been able to preorder a PlayStation 5 in this chaos. When and if further preorders for the PS5 will be accepted before the release is currently unfortunately not known.
