PS5 Pro vs Xbox Series X: Performance
What performance does the PS5 Pro offer? The PS5 Pro is expected to come with a significantly faster graphics chip: The new GPU is supposed to have 67% more compute units than the current PS5 console and 28% more memory. Overall, it is expected to deliver up to 45% faster rendering. However, the CPU is not expected to be changed.
Additionally, the PS5 Pro features AI-powered upscaling, known as “PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution” (PSSR).
What performance does the Xbox Series X offer? The Xbox Series X still relies on the old RDNA 2 architecture from AMD. Nevertheless, the Xbox Series X has had an advantage over the standard PS5 in terms of GPU performance, as it achieves 12.155 TFLOPS. The standard PS5 only offers 10.23 TFLOPS.
The Xbox Series also uses a custom chip from AMD, which runs faster than the PS5: The CPU with 8 cores is clocked at 3.8 GHz, while the PS5 is “only” set to 3.5 GHz.

Which is better? It is still impossible to say for certain, as we currently lack solid data from the PS5. The Xbox Series X is slightly ahead at this point, as the baseline performance is simply higher than that of the standard model.
However, the advantage of the Xbox could certainly change once solid benchmarks from the PS5 Pro are available. We will also only see how much “Spectral Super Resolution” (PSSR) impacts performance in practice later on.
Both consoles have so far offered 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, and the higher speed of the PS5 Pro could prove advantageous, especially at high resolutions (4K and 8K). Slower and especially smaller memory repeatedly proves to be a bottleneck for data at high resolutions.

What games does the Xbox Series X offer? The Xbox Series X offers around 500 games, including backward-compatible titles from older generations.
Which is better? The PS5 offers a significantly larger number of games overall, including many exclusive titles. On the other hand, you can use the Game Pass on the Xbox Series X and play many games directly at release for a small additional fee.
Nevertheless, the PS5 Pro has the advantage here. However, the difference is much less significant than it was back in the days of the PS4/Xbox One.

What does the design of the PS5 look like? The PS5 features a curved, white design. There are also small black accents, which are particularly prominent on the PS5 Pro.
With the PS5, you can now swap the side panels for different colors. This allows you to personalize your PS5 somewhat if the standard white color bothers you.
What does the design of the Xbox Series X look like? The Xbox Series X looks like a cube and features a black appearance that resembles the Xbox One, which was also black.
For the Xbox Series X, there is no option to modify the external appearance. However, a white Series X is allegedly in the works.
Which is better? Both consoles have received criticism for their design: both the “fridge” and the “router” have received many nicknames. In the end, the design is really a matter of taste, and it depends on what you prefer to have in your home.

How much does the PS5 Pro cost? The PS5 Pro officially costs €799.99 at release. A DualSense controller is included in the package. A drive is not built in, but you can buy it later. You can purchase a drive for an additional €119.99. This would bring the price of the PS5 Pro to over €900.
How much does the Xbox Series X cost? Microsoft, like Sony, has raised the price of its gaming console. Officially, you pay €549.99 for the Xbox Series X. The package includes both an Xbox Wireless Controller and two AA batteries. The Xbox Series X comes with a built-in Blu-ray drive.
With Xbox All Access, you can also purchase the console monthly with a Game Pass subscription. A model of the Xbox Series X with 2 TB of storage costs regularly €649.99.
Which is better? The Xbox Series X is currently the better deal in terms of price. Even when comparing the expensive 2 TB variant of Xbox to the PS5 Pro, the PS5 Pro is still €150 more expensive, and €250 more expensive if you want a drive. What speaks for the PS5 Pro: With the PS5 Pro, you get Sony’s fastest gaming console currently. Especially the performance leap, better ray tracing performance, and significantly better frame rates speak for Sony’s new console.
What speaks for the Xbox Series X: The Xbox Series X already offers native 4K support and now also comes in a 2 TB version. The Xbox Game Pass may not be as attractive since its price adjustment, but it is still an important draw for Xbox. After all, all modern titles can be played seamlessly on Xbox.
PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X: The PS5 Pro is the better choice for you if you want to play all of Sony’s exclusive titles, utilize the benefits of the DualSense, and have a setup that benefits from 4K or 8K. The PS5 overall has a huge game library that the Xbox currently cannot match. The PS5 and PS5 Pro also offer you access to virtual reality with PSVR 2, for which Xbox currently doesn’t have an alternative to offer.
However, it’s important to note: For both the game library and PSVR2, you do not need a Pro model. The standard PS5 is completely sufficient for that.
If you only want a fast console that doesn’t require a vertical stand and already has a built-in drive and 2 TB of storage, you can also buy the Xbox Series X for €649.99. Compared to the PS5 Pro, you save around €150, and even €250 if you want a drive. Dolby Vision is also only supported by the Xbox.
