PS5: “My Childhood is Back” – A new game connects to one of the most legendary fighting games of all time

Double Dragon was a huge brand in the 1990s. The beat ’em up genre was at its peak, and along with Streets of Rage and Fatal Fury, they were the 3 icons of gaming history. In recent years, the genre thought to be dead is returning, and now Double Dragon is coming back as well.

What is Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons? Like the last Turtles game or Streets of Rage 4, Double Dragon Gaiden is a small renaissance of the beat ’em up genre. Classic elements are meant to be transported into modern times.

You fight alone or with a friend in local couch co-op through the streets, taking down various enemies that stand in your way. The goal is simple: run from left to right and reach the end of the level. At the end of the levels, you will encounter bosses that you must defeat with your combos.

The successful Street Fighter 6, on the other hand, is giving trophy hunters some difficulties:

What does the game offer? Double Dragon Gaiden offers a lot to revive the old genre.

Especially the latter is a good innovation. Beat ’em ups are often designed to be replayed multiple times. With roguelite elements, random upgrades and other dynamic factors are added, making each playthrough a little different.
