System Update 5.0 for PlayStation 4 (PS4) is coming. Some of the new features are now known.
In mid-July, Sony announced that they are looking for beta testers for the 5.0 update for PS4. However, Sony did not disclose what new features this system update will introduce.
There is still no official blog post from Sony, but Eurogamer has already had a look at the patch notes for update 5.0. We present the “leaked” new features.
Twitch Streaming in 1080p60 on PS4 Pro
With update 5.0, all users who own a PS4 Pro can stream their gameplay directly via Twitch at 1080p and 60 fps. According to Eurogamer, this feature is limited to the PS4 Pro, which is more powerful than the standard PS4.
Additionally, with 5.0, it will be possible to follow all PSN user accounts. Currently, this can only be done with some verified accounts, such as official game accounts or accounts from certain developers or YouTubers.
In the future, you can follow everyone – you won’t even need to send them a friend request. This will not fill up your friends list either. According to Sony, this is meant to enhance interaction and the willingness to share more content.
Of course, you can set whether you want to allow everyone to follow you – or just your friends. Users can also be blocked.
Furthermore, with update 5.0, you will receive new family accounts, where you can select multiple parent accounts and set individual restrictions for child accounts. These family accounts can then be managed through a new web app, and the options can be changed at any time.
There will also be some smaller adjustments. For example, notifications will be displayed directly in the quick menu, so you won’t need to switch to the home screen. The status of downloads can also be displayed in the quick menu.
There is currently no release date for the firmware update 5.0. It will be released alongside a revised PlayStation app.
